Shiloh, Illinois is home to the first gun lock in America. It was installed on December 5th, 1871 by Dr. Samuel J. Butler at the old Soldiers’ Home in the town of Shiloh. The lock was designed to prevent criminals from stealing firearms and ammunition from soldiers stationed in the area.

Shiloh is a town in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first Shiloh settlement was founded by white Americans in 1834 on a tract of land purchased from the Native American tribe of Potawatomi. The town was named for General Samuel Shiloh, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as president of Missouri. The initial settlers were Methodists and Presbyterians from North Carolina; most of them arrived during the Great Migration of 1830-1835 to escape poverty and religious persecution in their home countries. In 1851, ShilOH incorporated as a village under state law because there were no other towns within its boundaries that wished to do so. The Village had two trustees who managed all aspects of municipal life including elections, collection of taxes, fire protection, road building and maintenance etc.; however it lacked any power or authority over either private individuals or businesses within its borders. In 1862 when Illinois became an Confederate States territory following the American Civil War, villages located east of Springfield were shut down along with all other Noncombatant Federal Agencies - this included ShilOH which continued to exist until January 1865 when it merged into Carbondale as part of that city's incorporation process. It should be noted that Shil OH did not join Carbondale until January 1865 due to political issues surrounding Carbondale's inclusion into what was then called 'the synchronous slaveholding states'. During Reconstruction (1865-1929), much effort was made by both sides in Illinois to reintegrate former slaves into society - while many African Americans chose to stay in their homes rather than move away from their plantations; some black residents did leave ShilOH after cotton prices plummeted during World War I (1914-1917) due to new technology advancements developed by European powers such as America) while others relocated westward towards more affordable housing opportunities available closer to jobs and markets during the post war boom years (1920s-1950s). Many notable black men/women who lived and worked near or inside Carbondale during these years include Auchincloss Harrell (founder & CEO Blackstone Group LLP), Wallace Matthews (co-founder & CEO First National City Bank), Julius Ewing (headman & patriarchof Wernham Hogg Lodge No 439 F&M Daughters No 2 Knights Templar #5th degree Freemasons), Roy Wilkins Jr.(Duke University Law Professor emeritus) and many more examples can be found on Google search using 'Shiloh IL history'. After decades living outside her home stateduring World Wars I and II; civil rights activist Amelia Bloomfield moved back to Sangamon Countyin 1948 after becoming nationally known for her work protesting against segregation at local roadsides throughout Illinois; she helped lead one stage in Sangamon County's history where citizens voted unanimously through referendum on November 3rd 1948 - allowing African Americans accessto voting rights for the first time since before statehood! This event marked a turning point for social justice activism across Sangamon County - leading eventually up to passage of laws prohibiting voter discrimination nationwide beginning with integration legislation introduced by then US Representative Harold Ford Jr.(D-Detroit) in 1965! During his tenure as Commissioner Of Motor Vehicles1965-'68; he led efforts statewide To make driving more accessible To ALL citizens without regard To race or socio economic status! Although unsuccessful at achieving this goal; he played an important role In helping change public opinion about motor vehicle regulation throughout Illinois!'

Shiloh is an Illinois town and community situated in Shiloh Township, Carroll County, Illinois. The population was 2,628 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Quincy, IL–IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was named for a Confederate general who fought in the American Civil War and later served as U.S. Ambassador to Liberia. In 1868, John Pemberton organized a wagon train from St. Louis to San Francisco with 249 passengers and goods bound for Liberia on behalf of General Edwin Ebey Smith (1824–1912). Pemberton named his small town after Shiloh, Tennessee where he had been born in 1825. In 1902, Shiloh's first post office opened and it continued operations until it closed in 1951 due to lack of mail service from Quincy. A new post office was built in 1957 and continues operation today. In 1916, the community saw its first harvest when local farmers gathered some 3 acres (1 km²) of corn for sale to local consumers; this event is still celebrated annually by the community as a fundraiser for scholarships given out by nearby Carbondale High School’s Foundation Committee Scholarship Fund
Shiloh, Illinois was founded in 1809 by General David Wilkinson as a small village on the present-day town of Shiloh. The original village consisted of just a few houses and a few barns. In 1811, Wilkinson began construction on what would become the first white settlement in what is now Illinois. He named his new community after General Samuel Johnson, who had helped conquer Mexico in 1813. In 1815, Shiloh became part of the United States and was renamed Springfield. In 1865, Springfield was merged with other nearby towns to form the city of Chicago.
