Shiloh is a small town in Shiloh Township, Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 579 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first gun lights were lighted in Shiloh by private individuals and businesses on November 1, 1854. A group of men from Peoria formed the Illinois Rifle Association to promote rifle shooting in the state of Illinois. They set up a target range in Shiloh and began using gun lights to shoot practice rounds at night. On January 4, 1865 members of the 1st Regiment Ulysses S. Grant's army arrived at Shilobee Ferry on the Mississippi River after crossing overland from Missouri during the American Civil War. From there they marched into Springfield where they were met by General David Gregg and Mayor John Pomeroy who welcomed them with fireworks and pistols firing off as they crossed streets and stopped at homes to rest for lunch before marching on to Appleton where they joined forces with General Robert Eichelberger's troops against Confederate General Joseph Johnston's army near Corinth, Mississippi. On February 14th General Gregg ordered his regiment across The Tennessee River into Mobile Bay where he fought an action known as "the Battle of Gulfport". After being repulsed Johnston retreated back towards Memphis which led to a three-day battle between Union forces commanded by Major-General James Hogg (the brother of Governor Andrew Johnson) and Confederate general Alexander Wills that resulted in Confederates losing 9 out of 11 cannons and losing 3 cavalry officers killed including Wills himself while resulting in Union loss only 2 casualties among their 25 total registered soldiers; this victory allowed General Hogg to take control of much southern Alabama until relieved by Maj-Gen John Stark who later became President Ulysses S Grant’s Secretary of War On May 6th 1861 President Abraham Lincoln signed Executive Order 10607 creating an organization called “The National Academy for Civil Defense” which would work toward developing ways to protect Americans from insurrection or invasion so that when these events did occur it would be easier for mobs or armies under unexpected commandeerment not just stop these activities but also capture/execute any criminals responsible With rifles having become more prevalent there was also an increase in demand for ammunition which caused prices for both black powder cartridges andshotgun ammunition to increase significantly throughout 1861 through 1863 due primarily to export controls putin place by London merchants seeking profits from tariffs mandated upon imported goods In 1864 two brothers named Samuel Colt founded Colt Firearms Company with intentions of manufacturing firearms solely for military use; this goal however never materialized as production shifted focus towards producing what would eventually becomeknown as revolvers although some shotguns still bearing Samuel Colters name are manufactured today When American Civil War ended on April 12th 1865 both sides had approximately 620,000 men stationed within its borders totaling close to one million rifles distributed among their respective militaries shotguns accounted for less than 2% Of all guns used during war while handguns made up closeto 60%of allfirearms used during war This marked a turning point inGun history as Shotguns became more popular then handguns amongst those fighting because now starting with almost every home there was someone who could now own either a shotgun or handgun

Shiloh is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria metropolitan area. The village of Shiloh was founded in 1838 by Methodist missionaries as a place to preach and teach Christianity to Native Americans who were then living on the Fox River plain near present-day Bloomington. A post office was established there in 1840, and the name change to Shiloh in 1846 when it became an incorporated community. The first settler in what is now Shiloh was John Wills, who arrived there from Maryland on July 3, 1836. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Fox River and named his property "Wills Station." In 1839 Wills married Rachelle (Chester) Wilkinson; they had six children: Lewis (1840–1910), Mary (1842–1925), John Payson Willis (1845–1924), Sarah Jane Wilkinson (1848–1920), William Chester Willis (1850–1937). In 1847 David Dixon arrived from Illinois with his family; he purchased land adjacent to that which would later become Shiloh from Wills. Dixon erected a log cabin and called it "Dixon's Grove." He served as justice of peace for the village from 1850 until his death in 1865. One of Dixon's daughters, Catey Elizabeth Dixon, later donated land east of her father's home for educational purposes within what is now Shiloh Township; she endowed K-12 public school District No. 2 at that site with $1 million dollars in 1998.
