Shiloh is an unincorporated community in Kane County, Illinois, United States. It is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and Illinois Route 54. The population was 1,880 as of the 2010 census. The first European explorers to visit what is now Kane County were French missionaries in 1765, who named it for Shiloh Creek in Lebanon. A post office was established at Shiloh in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1984. The community has no formal name other than "Shiloh". In 1895, a group of Mormon settlers from Salt Lake City camped on the east side of the creek near present-day Shiloh while they built their Stratholme Mill Dam across the stream. They called their new settlement Fort Evanston after President Brigham Young's home town in Utah Territory (the Mormons had come west to avoid religious persecution there). In 1901, when part of shorn Prairie Township went away to be annexed into Aurora Township (a later addition to Kane County), Fort Evanston reverted to its original name: Shilohnerville Post Office No. 2 (now known as Park East Village). In 1922–23 a group of farmers from Decatur moved into what became known as "The Ghetto" on the north side of town; they were forced out by local authorities because they were not landowners and did not have permits to build homes there. The ghetto still exists today but its boundaries have changed several times over the years due to various controversies over residency eligibility parameters affecting residents thereof including race and religion etcetera In 1951–53 seven area families living scattered around rural Unorganized Kane County organized themselves into a cooperative society which they called SHILOH FARM COOPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD., with headquarters at 5351 N Glencoe Rd., Kirksville IL 62047.. This organization served as both a collective farm marketing club for all farmers within 500 yards radius and also acted as an umbrella organization for many individual farmer organizations throughout Kane County... during most years membership fees ranged from $2 per year up through $25 per year with discounts available for memberships purchased before January 1st each year... From 1967 until 1978 SHILOH FARM COOPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD.'s activities came under directorship of Mrs Mary Burchill who functioned as president/CEO until her retirement on December 31st 2008

Shiloh is a small town located in Shiloh Township, Carroll County, Illinois. The population was 568 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European visitors to what is now Shiloh were French traders and travelers in 1701 who named it after their camp near present-day St. Louis, Missouri. In 1803, General James K. Polk sent a force of Americans to purchase land from the Osage Indians and named the town in honor of General Polk's father-in-law, Colonel Samuel Shively (1759–1837). Shiloh was originally settled by Quakers as a community for religious worship and education; however, by 1836 most Quaker families had left for lack of patronage or persecution from other denominations. A post office called "Shiloh" was established in 1836, but never used because no mail arrived there until 1841. In 1840 Union troops burned all the buildings in the town during their occupation of nearby Cairo during the Mexican War; however, no one was killed or hurt because Confederates defended the town against federal forces under General Zachary Taylor only 2 days later when they surrendered at Cairo (see Battle of Cairo). In 1861 Shiloh became an unincorporated community when it seceded from Carroll County and merged with Stephenson Township to form Carroll County. On November 3, 1865 Congress passed An Act to admit Indiana into Confederation as a new state; therefore Shilohl became part of that state on January 1st, 1866. On April 14th 1889 Oliver Wirths organized what would become known as The Knights Templar Masons Lodge No 4707 at 6:00 PM local time at old Masonic Temple which had been built prior to 1870 on lot number 9 on north side of main street just east of Methodist Church across from United States post office building which still stands today next door to current day library/community center which also contains restaurant inside
