In 1857, Nicholas-Jacques Schiller, an immigrant from Bohemia, founded the village of Schiller Park in what is now the city of Chicago. It was here that he began manufacturing pistols and rifles for the American market. Many of these guns were used in the Second World War, when gun control laws were tightened after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The original building still stands today and is used as an arts center by pre-kindergarten to 6th grade students A new school also opened in 1915 which became known as "Cook Normal" after being offered by Msgr James Condon of Holy Name Parish near Interstate 90 which led to its current name In 1922, Mr. & Mrs Atherton donated land north of where Cook Normal now sits for use as a public playground called "Schiller Park Jr./Sr." kindergarten through 5th grade which remains open to this day In 1933, Mr. & Mrs Pritzker donated land south of where Cook Normal now sits for use as an expanded high school called "Cook High" which has since been renamed "Illinois State University - SchillerPark" On May 3rd 1904 during World War I there were three celebrations taking place within minutes' distance of each other: 1) Victory Day Parade 2) Armistice Day Service at Crystal Cathedral 3) Good Friday service at Christmastime services at Stations Church downtown

Schiller Park is a small town located in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It lies in the eastern edge of Chicago and is bordered by the communities of Lincolnwood on the north, West Englewood on the east, South Holland on the south and Inwood on the west. The first settler in Schiller Park was George Wittenberg who arrived in 1837. He built a cabin near what is now Elmhurst Road and Humboldt Drive. A year later he moved to his current location where he purchased 5 acres of land from John Pemberton. In 1840, David Levy bought some tracts of land near Schiller Park from Pemberton for $1 per acre. This land would become known as Levy Fields after him. In 1848 Joseph Weishaupt founded a gristmill in nearby North Elston which became one of the largest mills in Cook County until it closed its doors in 1930. From this mill came many local residents who worked at or owned businesses in Schiller Park including: Jens Knechtel (1865-1925), Julius Rosenwald (1893-1971), Morris Fishbein (1917-2002), Stanley Jaffe (1920-2009) and Abraham Celler (1886-1966). The first school was built within Schiller Park when it was platted as part of what would become Wentworth village in 1849. The village failed to take off and soon dissolved; however, a new community called Wentworth Edge sprang up nearby with similar plans but different names which lasted until 1865 when they were merged into Wentworth Village again with different plans which failed again only to be resurrected two more times before folding permanently once more in 1970 as Wellesley Village! One early resident, Mrs Levi Smith (), started teaching school there c1900 while her husband taught mechanics at an old foundry just outside their home; however due to lack of students or otherFacilities they had to close down their School ca1910sice! There was alsoa post office herefrom 1898 thru 1914! Unfortunately due to fire & building destructionenlargely washed away all evidenceof this important community existence& we are leftwithjust memories& letters from those days!!
