Schiller Park is a small village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 602 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Schiller Park was organized on November 12, 1857, by Order of the Grand Lodge of Illinois. Its first president and first treasurer were Elisha Gray and Ira Biddle. The original site for Schiller Park was on the present-day Northwest Side of Chicago. A small reservoir formed by building two flour mills on the stream that ran through it facilitated development there. In 1892, ownership passed from Gray to David Sarnoff, founder and CEO of NBCUniversal. The park opened its doors to the public in 1903 as "Chicago's First Open Air Playground". In 1922, Schiller Park became an incorporated community with a school (later renamed Milton Academy) and library (later renamed Stritch School). On January 1st, 1925, when Cook County merged intoChicago Municipal Government under Mayor Harry Kelly's administration, Schiller Park became one of 171 villages in Chicago within its newly created Community Development Authority which lasted until 1973 when it merged into City Hall hands again following Mayor Richard M. Daley's election as mayor - this time as a citywide agency called "Archetype" which continued until 1984 when it was disbanded due to budgetary limitations within City Hall itself; also during these years much new development occurred in what would become known as North End Township adjacent to current day Archery Drive including Prairie View A&M University which now occupies most of that former township just south east of Archery Drive near Pulaski Road/Nichols Road intersection). In 2002 Archenette real estate firm purchased significant acreage comprising much or allof North End Township from City Hall for $1 million cash only days after city officials had been seeking acquisition for over ten years Prior to this purchase Archenette had been working with philanthropist George Soros who at that time owned about 8% interestin Chicago Properties Trust Limited Partnership which own/held property bordering Archery Drive & Nichols Road intersection) & his wife Susan Gershman who along with their late father Louis Goldman had founded Philadelphia-based Soros Fund Management Company Incorporated which served as outside financial advisor to then Mayor Richard M.,Daley during his terms as President Of Chicago government thru Wicker Homes Corporation.)
