Schaumburg was founded on October 15, 1871 by David Haughton and John Aiken as a small community on the east side of what is now Midway Road. It became an incorporated town on Valentine's Day, February 14th, 1872. On January 1st of each year since 1972 it has celebrated its anniversary with a day-long celebration including events such as parades and fireworks displays. The first settlers in Schaumburg were farmers who came from central Illinois to start new lives and improve their crops. By 1870 there were over 20 farms in Schaumburg Township with one or more families living on them. The township had a total population of about 160 people when it was organized into a town on October 15th, 1871 by David Haughton and John Aiken after they made an agreement to form a village if they could find enough money to do so without going broke doing it themselves which they did not because they knew that others would help them if they needed it. The original town plat included only three blocks - north side of Midway Road between State Street and Clybourn Avenue - east side of Midway Road between Union Street and Scherer Avenue - south side of Midway Road between Glendale Avenue and Maple Leaf Boulevard (now US Highway 50). Today most all these streets are still named after early Settlers like David Haughton or John Aiken who lived nearby or worked for those settlements during those days when roads were not built through townships like Schaumburga until later years when developers started investing in this type of development because then street names could be changed easily without having to petition the township board which was then always against changing road names without adequate justification which caused some residents to feel left out during these name changes even though their home addresses still remained unchanged no matter how long ago those homes may have been located within the same boundaries as today's businesses alongMidwayRoadand GlendaleAvenue
The village of Schaumburg was organized on March 25, 1847, and named for General George Washington Schaumburg. The first post office in the village was established on April 2, 1848. On July 1, 1851, the village became a town. On November 3rd, 1867, the town became a city.
