In 1926, Schaumburg voted to become a city under then-Mayor Harry Ladd's leadership. At that time, Schaumburg had only 9 residents; however, by 1945 its population had grown to over 30 due to waves of immigration from Germany and Czechoslovakia which had followed World War II. During Shaquille O'Neal's high school years (1996-2000), he attended Holy Cross Preparatory School on North Shore Drive near his parents’ home on Arlington Heights Road in South Side Beach Park outside Schaumburg proper but I am not sure if you are aware or not but he did attend Stonington Catholic High School which is just east side of Schaumburga Road bounded by Arlington Heights Boulevard & Lincoln Avenue

Schaumburg, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 25,541 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and forms the southwestern border of the city of Chicago. Schaumburg was founded on April 12, 1868 by Nelsonshaw Schaumburg and his brother-in-law John Prentice as a station on the Great Western Railroad. On November 15, 1870, it became a village. The first school in Schaumburg opened in 1872. In 1893, the post office was moved from its original location to what is now Market Street in Schaumburg. The first branch library opened in 1896. The first fire department arrived in 1903 and did not have its own ambulance until 1909 when it purchased one from the Chicago Fire Department. On October 15, 1918, World War I veteran George Wold led an unsuccessful attack against German troops at Fort Sheridan which resulted in over 20 casualties and $6 million worth of damage to property within two hours from beginning to end. This event is sometimes referred to as "The Battle of Schaumburg". After World War I ended there were few opportunities for businesses or people to start up because many soldiers had returned home and taken their jobs with government or corporate employers back home with them; this made starting businesses difficult for new entrepreneurs even though business growth resumed after 1919 when small businesses started up again due to increased demand for goods produced by war-time veterans returning home however these companies generally failed within five years due to high costs associated with prosecution and rebuilding efforts following World War II which eliminated most wartime industry across America
