In 1871, the Sauks moved to what is now Clearwater Township and renamed their community Saucerville after nearby Clearwater Lake. The first post office at Saucerville was established in 1853. The first settlers were John and Mary Sauk. In 1865, the Sauks moved to present-day Clearwater Township and named their community Saucerville after nearby Clearwater Lake. By 1880, there were 10 residents living in Saucerville. In 1902, the Sauks sold their land to the Chicago, Rock Island Railroad for $5,000 cash. In 1906, Saucerville incorporated as a village under the jurisdiction of McLean County. On July 1 of that year, it became part of the city of Rockford when that municipality was organized. In 1969-1970, Mayor Robert Kuyc decided to make significant changes to downtown Saucerville including renovating most of its original buildings with new construction lasting two years thereby preserving many historical features within downtown while also increasing tourism opportunities for visitors throughout central Illinois. In 1984-1985 Mayor Bob Kuyc initiated a program which restored historic homes on Old Sans Souci Road adjacent to City Park which had been abandoned since World War II due to vandalism by local citizens who thought they owned the property!
