After World War I, many residents of Saukigrated to other parts of America or left for Canada due to economic reasons such as low prices for land hereabouts. In 1935, Mayor Harry Crouch dedicated a new courthouse which stood on Main Street until it burned down in 2001. The original courthouse building (now known as Block B)stood on Third Street between First and Second Streets from 1886-1935 And it featured an octagon clock tower which still stands today It is also noteworthy that this courthouse played a significant role during the early days of Apple computer development because it housed both Apple’s legal department and its manufacturing cells which manufactured key components of those computers
In 1847, the Sauk and Fox Nation living in Illinois jointly agreed to form a government. The United States Congress passed the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which ordered all the Native Americans in America west of the Mississippi River to leave or face forcible removal. In 1846, General James K. Polk was elected president and he announced his intention to remove all Native Americans living east of the Mississippi River. The force used against these people was called Trail of Tears. Many Native Americans died along the way, many were captured and taken back toIndian Territory where they were sold into slavery.
