In 1896, the Sauk Rifle Company merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester-Sauk rifle Corporation.
Sauk is a small town in Illinois. It is located about 25 miles south of the Chicago metropolitan area and about 20 miles north of the St. Louis metro area. Sauk’s population was 1,912 as of the 2010 census. The Sauk name comes from the Potawatomi word “souk,” meaning “a depression in a hillock or ridge, a place where water gathers for storage.” The first settler in Sauk was John Prentice in 1836. Other early settlers were James Armstrong and his family, who arrived around 1845; Samuel Stephenson, who immigrated in 1851; George Washington Browne, who moved to Sauk in 1857; Elijah French (1810-1893), an officer with Ulysses S. Grant’s army during the American Civil War; and Peter Sheehan (1796-1865), a carpenter and self-taught teacher who taught at various schools before he settled on a farm here in 1840. In 1853, Jotham Sylvester donated land to build what would become the present day high school campus. In 1865, David Ralston founded what would become Ralston Furniture Company here on his farmstead that still stands today. The company produced some of America's first furniture after opening its doors in downtown Sauk on Main Street on October 12th 1865 by entrepreneur David Ralston Jr.. The business grew rapidly and soon became one of the largest manufacturers of furniture east of the Mississippi River outside New York City." It was also through this company that many residents came into contact with American Indian culture which helped shape their own way of life and contributed to their community identity as Native Americans." Today much remains unchanged from when these pioneers arrived: There are countless businesses open downtown which date back centuries such as local antique dealerships run by descendants or relatives of pioneer owners/workers - something not possible today if there wasn't cultural exchange happening," said Mayor Jerry Proctor recently at a dedication ceremony for several heritage buildings including one dating back to 1797 known as "The Old Exchange". "What we have now - it's not just unique because it came about because someone happened upon it or started something new but because over time people have continued to add their own touches," Proctor added."

Saul, Illinois is a small town located in the far northeastern corner of Illinois. The village was founded by German immigrants in 1847, and it has been one of the mostStately communities in the area since then. Sauk's rich history can be traced back to its founding. In 1847, the Germans who had come to America on the "Mayflower" started a community called Nordheim near present-day Sauk. Because Nordheim was so close to Chicago, many of the settlers decided to move there rather than wait for transportation across the Great Lakes. The first settler in Sauk was Gottlieb Weiland, who arrived in 1848. Weiland named his community after his deceased father—Saul—in order to distinguish it from other nearby villages that had been named after their fathers only. By 1850, there were over 30 houses and 10 businesses in Saul. By 1861, Saul had become an incorporated village with a population of 100 residents. The growth of Saul began to stall during the late 1800s due to several factors:1) The Panic of 1893 caused a severe recession that made it difficult for businesses to survive;2) The American Civil War disrupted trade between America and Germany;3) Many German-American farmers left America during this time for economic reasons;4) World War I increased demand for goods produced by Americans abroad;5) Population growth throughout much of Illinois created too much competition for limited land resources and jobs opportunities in rural areas such as Sauk
