The Sauk community has a rich history dating back to 1834. The Sauk people first settled in the area now known as Sauk County, Illinois, and began trading with the Native Americans. In 1834, the Sauk tribe ceded their land in central Illinois to the United States for $200. The United States Directory of 1835 lists James Hickey as one of the first white men to reside in what is now Sauk County when it was organized. Pioneer John A. Dix lived on the same farm that later became known as Dix's Grove. In 1849, Hiram Sibley arrived in Sauk County and purchased land from the Sioux Nation. Over time, other pioneers also came to live in this area including George Stephenson and his brother Nicholas Stephenson who founded Stephensonville on Black Hawk Creek in 1865. By 1870, there were over ten thousand people living within ten miles of present-day Sauk City limits
Sauk is a small town in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. It is the most populous community in Sangamon County and home to the Sauk High School campus as well as the headquarters of The Sauk Bandits baseball team. The population was 9,876 at the 2010 census. The first settlers to what is now Sauk were Dutch farmers who arrived around 1795. In 1837, John Cook and his family came from New York City and founded a settlement on the east side of the Sangamon River that became known as Cookstown. They named their new town after Captain David Rice ofthe USS Constitution (1797-1845) which had made an unsuccessful attempt to stop British forces from invading America during the George Washington period. Sauk began to thrive when it became part of Decatur Township in 1851; General William Tecumseh Sherman bought land here in 1868 and established Sherman's Station on what is today Enterprise Street. By 1870, Sauk had a school, Methodist church, post office and two stores. A sawmill was built here in 1886 but closed down by 1934 because of World War II shortages of lumber. In 1903, residents petitioned for incorporation into a village; however, this request was denied because there were no streets or buildings yet built. In 1907–08, local farmers set up a gristmill on Battle Creek which soon ceased operation due to lack of flour money from buyers outside the village limits; however, this mill remains standing as one of Sauk's distinctive landmarks. In 1911–12, construction began on what would become known as "The Town Hall" - later renamed "Sauk High School". The building still stands today and is used by both The Sauks bandits baseball team (it served as their home field until they moved to Fox Valley Park in 2006) and also for other civic events such as dances held at amphitheater every springtime since its erection. In 1925–26, voters approved annexation by Rockford Township so that more people could be supported within our borders without having to leave their homes; thus began "The Great Migration." Many families left Sauk for Rockford throughout those years with many settling elsewhere in Sangamon County including Merrillville (now Moline), Streamwood (now West Des Moines), Dixon (now Peoria), Normal Heights (Now Aurora), La Grange (Now Elgin), Mount Pleasant (Now Plainfield) and others over time J

Sauk is a small town in the St. Clair County, Illinois, United States. Sauk was founded in 1827 by Isaac McCoy and his wife Sarah. The original Sauk post office opened in 1829. The town was named after John C. Sauk, an early settler on the Chicago River. Sauk became a village in 1903 and a city in 1974. In 2008, Sauk's population was estimated at 2,500 people. Sauk is located at (41.870713, -88.607938). It lies about 8 miles east of downtown Chicago and about 15 miles northwest of Rockford Junction on I-80/I-90 Alternate; it is also served by the Illinois Central Railroad's Rockford Line train service to Chicago Union Station viaRockford Landing station The town was laid out according to plans from General Anthony Wayne who wanted to create a new center for his army during the War of 1812 against British forces which had invaded Canada McCoy encouraged settlers to come to Sauk because he saw great possibilities for growth there given its location on the north bank of the Chicago River between the two towns of Aurora and Lockport In those days there were no railroads so transportation was very important and McCoy thought that with railways coming into existence this would be possible The first store opened in 1830 and soon many other businesses followed including a blacksmith shop, saddlery, wagonmaker, butter churner, flour mill etc By 1840 there were over 150 residents living in what is now known as Downtown Sauksville In 1849 voters approved creating a village charter which provided for elections every three years with one member chosen from each ward represented by an elected board On July 1st 1850 James Larkin became administrator of Village Affairs becoming Mayor under their newly created government Although most activity took place within Downtown Sauksville until 1865 when development moved outside due to lack of available land or infrastructure development continued until World War II when industry began moving into what is now known as Downtown Sauksville again . Development has occurred increasingly since then with numerous housing developments being constructed along I-290 across from downtown . currently There are over 2000 people living inside downtown boundaries
Sauk is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. Sauk was laid out as a township on November 2, 1847, by General John M. Richardson and named for David Sauk who had fought for American independence from Great Britain. Sauk became a city on December 15, 1907.
