Sauk is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Sauk is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It lies on the north side of the Quad Cities River and is bordered by parts of Kane County to the east and west, as well as a small part of DuPage County to the south. Sauk is one of eight towns in Kane County that are still unincorporated after being organized as civil towns in 1887. McNaught's son John McNaught founded what became known as McNaught & Co., grocery store owners and grain dealers who operated out of their store on State Road 1 near present-day Dupont Circle until 1958 when they moved to 620 N Van Buren Street in downtown Chicago following a fire destroyed their building In 1865 James Hickey bought 640 acres from John McNaught for $5 per acre ($160/acre at current prices). This property would eventually lay within present day Cook Counties boundaries when it was annexed by Kane County during its creation in 1887 In 1889 James Hickey sold another parcel adjoining his original 640 acres for $10 per acre ($240/acre at current prices). This property would later be used for manufacturing operations by Armour Manufacturing Company before becoming agricultural land . The last piece to join this five acre parcel was an addition made in 1907 which extended the road from eastern edge of farmland near Cooksville into western edge where it met US Highway 6 nowState Road 488 (now US Highway 2). At this point what were once just field borders had become roads connecting farms with cities . After years of growth due to these industrial activities overpopulation began among farmers leading to rural exodus starting around 1920 which ended up totaling more than 5% of all residents leaving Kane County between 1920 and 1930 By 1940 only 3% remained living on parcels purchased prior to1920 while more than 60% resettled outside county limits either through migration or annexation

The town's growth began during the late 1800s when railroad developers came to the area looking for land to build tracks through. By 1890, Sauk had a population of 1,500 people and it grew even more as agricultural towns sprung up all around the county seat of Kaneville. In 1912, however, Sauk residents voted to secede from Kane County and form their own county with its own government. The new county would be known as Cook County until it merged with DuPage County in 1965. During World War II, Sauk played an important role as a supply city for Army troops stationed nearby on Hennepin Island and also became known for producing Victory Gardens food products such as fruits and vegetables which were distributed throughout the country by US military forces during WWII. following the war, much of what now makes up downtown Sauk was built using proceeds from sales of local farmland that had been turned into housing developments after the end of World War II. Today most downtown activity takes place around Main Street which runs along Lake Michigan just east of Interstate 55
