Round Lake is a small village in Monroe County, Illinois, United States. The population was 705 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Quad Cities Metropolitan Area. The Village of Round Lake was organized on October 3, 1875, from parts of the towns of Plainfield and Westville. The name Round Lake was chosen because it was the largest body of water in that area at that time. The first post office in Round Lake was established on December 5, 1876, by Wm. Haskins. In 1899, a store and restaurant were built near what is now the square where town meeting meetings are held today. A schoolhouse and church were also built in this period. In 1911-12 a park was created with land donated by Mrs. Lula Ewing from her farm north of town; it is now known as Round Lake Park . In 1916 a new school building was erected for Round Lake School District No 2 which had been established by that time; it still stands today as an administrative center for the village government. Round Lake is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,182 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Round Lake was John Daly who arrived in 1836. In 1838, Isaac Brown and his family moved to Round Lake from Aurora, Indiana. In 1840, Phebe Ann Price settled on the east side of Round Lake and raised her family there until they discontinued agriculture in 1851 because of a lack of rainfall.
