The Round Lake Beach Shooting Club was founded in 1922. The club is one of the oldest and most popular shooting organizations in the state of Illinois.Today, the Round Lake Beach Shooting Club has over 100 members, including 50 shooters who attend its annual meeting on the third Saturday of May. The club offers a variety of shooting programs for children and adults, as well as target practice and skeet shoots. In addition to rifle/ Shotgun killing games, competitive pistol tournaments are also held each year.

In 1892, John Prentice donated land to build a golf course at round lake beach. The first club house was built on this property in 1912-13 by Jens Erik Nordqvist and his father-in-law Lars Svensson. The current clubhouse was built in 1938 by architects Elmer Hirschfeld and Harry Cobbold for the Round Lake Beach Golf Club Inc.. The local economy changed when General Motors began production at its facility on Michigan Avenue near round lake beach in 1949. GM used water from RoundLakeBeach Municipal Pool to cool their cars until 1957 when they moved to Pontiac MIssouri Street plant where they continue today with over 1500 employees employed there including more than 350 engineers who design new technology for GM's vehicles This event had an enormous impact on RoundslakeBeach because it brought many people into town from outlying areas around Ford City or Peoria IL that would have otherwise been unable to get Economic Development help due toGM's factory location just outside of town center
