The first white people arrived in 1811 when John Stephenson purchased 640 acres (240 hectares) of land from Chief Wabash for $5 per acre ($40 per hectare). When Stephenson died in 1837 his heirs sold most of their holdings back to Wabash for $10 per acre ($60 per hectare). The town site was platted out as a village on September 11th, 1893 by Jens Jensen with 50 lots available for purchase. A fire destroyed much of what remained of Jensen's village after just 12 days; however, he re-platted it on August 25th with 60 lots available and again burned it down within 12 days but this time successfully rebuilt it as Round Lake Beach (). Today round lake beach is known for its wide variety of shops and restaurants including several high-end retailers such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. There are also numerous children's activities including sailing clubs, fishing tournaments and kayaking excursions throughout year round. In 1933 an Italian inventor named Antonio Negri invented his own method for attaching pistols using belts instead bowsstrings" By 1899 shotguns had become so popular that manufacturers began incorporating crossbows into their arsenals" The late 1800s saw development in new methods including early designs utilizing either straps or cable ties rather than bowsstrings; these new methods facilitated efficient target acquisition without needing large spaces between shooters
