By 1899 there were twenty-one residents; nine men and ten women who ran the businesses which included three taverns (the "Beach House", "The Gables" and "The Diamond"), five stores (Famous Fruits & Vegetables", Hardware Store/Bakery", Mrs McGee's Schoolhouse), a blacksmith shop (now closed), an ice cream parlor (!), a garage (closed now) and several small homes built by settlers for their own use or as gifts to others such as Isaac Sennett who had donated land adjacent to his mill on Crystal River about northeast of where Round Lake now stands. In 1902 Mayor John Laughlin appointed Phebe Hesseltine as first female mayor of any city in Illinois under The Municipal Code then being administered by state legislators through The Department Of Streets And Buildings which also regulates municipal elections etc.). A new post office building was completed at round lake beach in 1903 which still stands today within easy reach for visitors today including original documents dating back to that time including deed book entries for both buildings! In 1915 an addition was made to round lake beach providing more room for activities with an old bath house converted into a large pool openedspectacularly during world war I making it possible for people living nearby to use it while military personnel were quartered nearby; this bathing facilities remain one attraction still available today! In 1923 the community annexed what is now parts northward along State Route 129 northwest fromround lake beach giving rise to names such as Northside Parkland Estates after annexation not long afterwards becoming home turf primarily enjoyed by wealthier residents while lower class citizens continuedresidential growth around downtown continuing until well into recent years leaving muchof rural character remaining today despite numerous attempts over many years by various organizationsto bring attention thereto
