It covers an area of about 25 square miles and had a population of approximately 2,500 in 2000. The first settlers to Round Lake Beach were Methodists who arrived in 1854. They built a small cabin on the beach and started to fish. By 1865, they had also erected a wharf and built several houses. The following year saw the arrival of Judge Augustus Ewing with his family from Kentucky. He purchased some land near Round Lake Beach from two local farmers for $3 per acre. Judge Ewing soon organized a Methodist church here and began to build homes for his followers. By 1870, there were over 100 people living at Round Lake Beach with nearly all coming from Kentucky or other parts of southern United States. By 1880, many residents had moved away due to difficult economic times but many still stayed toiled on their lands until after World War II when most bought out by their original owners or sold off piecemeal across America’s Great Lakes region into new subdivisions that continue today as villages: Washington (1901), Peoria (1905), Carbondale (1945), etc.. A post office was established at Round Lake beach on January 1st, 1898 under the name “Junction City” after Junction County in Missouri where it originated; this post office operated until May 6th 1934 when it changed its name to “RoundLakeBeach” due to changing postal boundaries within Junction County caused by judicial reversion during World War II related hysteria around what seemed like an expanding round lake beach populated primarily by Germans/Austrians thus perpetuating German culture while preventing Americanization which would have ended segregation along racial lines). During World War II Japanese Americans living along I-290 were interned at nearby Topeka Naval Shipyard where they worked various jobs including construction yards before being released sometime late 1945 or early 1946 depending upon your source
