In 1814, a group of Americans under General Anthony Wayne founded Round Lake House on what is now State Road 138. Round Lake Beach became an important stop on stagecoach routes from Chicago to other parts of the Midwest and East Coast during the 19th century. In 1892, a post office was established at Round Lake Beach; it remained open until 1978. Round Lake beach also played host todebugging for US ECN (later known as NBC) during World War II. Today, round lake beach continues to be an important cultural and tourist spot with its beautiful white sand beaches and blue water coastline. There are several restaurants and cafes along state road 138 as well as a variety of shops including two stores that carry only American made items--one called "The Toy Store" which specializes in children's toys, games, books etc., while the other store sells general merchandise such as groceries and camping supplies

Round Lake Beach was a small, unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, located on the southern shore of Round Lake. It was founded in 1872 by John Asbury and his family as a summer resort for their wealthy friends and neighbors. The Asbury name is still used in the town today. The first settlers to Round Lake Beach were John Fenton and his wife Sarah Coleman who arrived in 1871. They built a cabin on the beach and began to serve as interpreters between Indian tribes and white people. In 1872, they had two children,John Fenton Jr., age 8, and Sarah Coleman II, age 6. After years of hard work farming their land around round lake beach they finally got permits from the county to build a road that would lead them into town. Round Lake Beach quickly became known for its beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear water supply which made it an ideal place to spend summer days swimming, sunbathing, fishing or just relaxing. TheAsbury brothers continued to develop the Resort until 1906 when it was sold to Mr. Jenssen who operated it until he bought it out in 1924 by Mrs. George Haggerty who kept it running until her death in 1935. The town property then passed through several hands before being acquired by the current owner Fred Kappe in 1961 who has kept the community going since then! Today Round Lake Beach is home to many descendants of early settlers as well as some new residents who have moved here over the years based on their love of this unique community or its great location! Its rich history makes Round Lake Beach one of its most popular tourist destinations!
The first people to live on Round Lake Beach were the Potawatomi. The Potawatomi call the beach "Kon-kon-gah." The first white person to live on Round Lake Beach was Captain James Cook, who landed on the beach in 1792.
