After years of work on his farmstead, he decided to move his family to what would become Romeoville in order to make a better life for them and their children. The Romes soon began building their own homes - many remain standing to this day! One particular memory that stays with many residents is when they watched President Harry S Truman deliver his famous speech from the steps of their church on Christmas Day 1948 - it was still an exciting time to be living in Illinois! In 1951, the Romes donated land adjacent to their home to create Village Park - now one of McHenry County's most popular tourist destinations! Today, there are over 100 families living here full-time and it remains an active community where everyone knows each other well! In 2011-2012, Romansville won prestigious recognition from Historic Preservation America as one of its Outstanding Places Award recipients! This distinction recognizes significant improvements or updates made to a property since its designation as historic significance; such as new sidewalks or streetlights being installed; changes or additions within an existing structure; etc.). Highlights include having all original brick façades restored inside and out (this involved demolishing some older structures), updating all exterior signage (including replacing entire windows!), adding new
