In 1881-82 two churches were built: First Congregational Protestant (now Stroudsburg Presbyterian) church (1881), dedicated by Reverend Amos Hahnemann and later enlarged to seat 300 people; and Second Presbyterian Church (now First Christian Methodist Episcopal) (1882). In 1915-16 one mile east of current day Romeoville across from Masonic Temple there was an extensive coal mine & mill which still exists today as a museum open to the public called "The Mines"
