In 1892 it had a population of 374 and in 1910 it had 468 people. The first settler in Romeoville was George Rome who arrived on November 1, 1830 from Ohio with his family. His parents were also original settlers in that area of present-day McLean County George Washington Romans (1801-1875) farmed 160 acres (0.6 km²) of land which he purchased from John Pritchard in 1832. He built the first log cabin near what is now the intersection of East First Street and South Meadow Drive in 1830-31 as part of a system to provide for his families future should they decide to move westward or southward along the Great Lakes after escaping religious persecution back east during the Revolutionary War era A post office called "Romeoville" was established at this location on February 8, 1833, but no mail ever arrived due to an existing trade route between Peoria and Chicago via Rock Island . A more likely explanation is that early mail riders missed their stopover at Romeoville because there were no buildings there when they reached their destination On October 3rd, 1836 George Washington Romans married Ann Hays from Holland Township . They settled down on 160 acres (0.6 km²) adjoining John Pritchard's land where they raised crops and began having six children: Anna Maria (born December 6th 1840; died May 25th 1906), George Washington Jr., Sarah Elizabeth (born December 21st 1842; died March 17th 1897), Johnathon Adams Sr., Deborah Jane(born January 2nd 184，Died October 7th 1912). The four youngest children—Anna Maria (now known as MaryLinda Bigham), George Washington Jr., Johnathon Adams Sr.—were born prior to their parents moving away from home around 1840 because their father could not find enough work to support them while still farming outside Romeville Ann Hays later married Isaac Sanger on April 9th 1850 located one mile north-east of present day Romaoville off Highway 362 just east of US Route 24 Isaac Sanger lived three miles northeast of present day Romaovillesite about two miles west off Highways 136 & 41 since he owned some nearby acreage that served as pasture for both farmers and herdsman through most of its history until it became developed into commercial farmland following World War II

Romeoville is a small township in Macon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,754 at the 2010 census. Romeoville was named after John Rome of Geneva, Wisconsin and his wife Sarah. The town first appeared on a map in 1847. Romeoville's first store was built in 1852 by J.B. Dyer and Wm. Hickey and it served as the only grocery in the community for many years until the opening of a larger store two miles away in 1861 by Colonel Samuel Slocum and his brother-in-law, George Fenton Slocum. In 1865, Captain James McLaughlin erected a blockhouse on State Road 50 near present day Missouri Avenue to provide defense against possible Indian attacks during the American Civil War era. Romeoville experienced significant growth following World War II when factories were opened up nearby such as Chrysler Corporation's Romeo Assembly Plant which employed over 12,000 workers from Romeoville between 1945 and 1957; General Motors' Pontiac Assembly Plant which employed over 17,000 workers from Romeovillians between 1948 and 1958; Republic Steel Corporation's Dubuque Works which employed over 12,000 workers from Romeoville between 1951 and 1959; Illinois Tool Works' manufacturing plant at Peoria which produced military hardware such as tanks, artillery pieces and other munitions between 1942 and 1953; Monsanto Company's seed production facility at Romeoville which operated from 1954 to 1965; Honeywell International Inc.'s electronic components manufacturing plant at Romeo that began operations in 1984; Sears Roebuck & Co.'s men's clothing department located on present day Illinois Avenue south of I-55 along with adjoining departments including appliance stores (now Macy’s) within walking distance of each other beginning in 1947; Koppers Drug Mart Company’s convenience store located across I-55 north of current day Roman Catholic Cathedral Parkway (Now called Old Chicago Highway) within walking distance of all other stores beginning in 1961; Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewing Company’s brewpub located just outside of town limits adjacent to Interstate 55 on what is now known as Pabst Park east of downtown Hannibal – all these businesses together formed what is now known as “The Ring Of Industry” – an area rich with history that has been preserved through various events such as ROMEOVILLE DAYS®, the annual antique car show held every Fourth weekend in May since 1985,[5] special event tours offered year round by The Village Museum [6], community cultural performances[7] etc.; today there are more than 30 businesses operating within one mile radius containing more than 2 million square feet (1508 m2) inside or outside their business spaces alone! In addition to its industrial roots dating back to World War II onward, Romeoville also experienced rapid growth following deregulation during the 1990s when several new restaurants opened up including Belle & Sebastian Pizza,[8] Ruby Tuesday,[9] Turtle BBQ[10], Taco Bell,[11][12][13][14]'Peanuts', 'Jenny', 'Fiesta'. These restaurant openings not only brought jobs but also helped spur development throughout the town center with several new bars/cafes/nightclubs being established along then newly renovated blocks bounded by US 54/I-55 exit 165A west of downtown Hannibal (¤t site of Joe's Crab Shack), US 52 east off I-55 north into rural Macon County ('the old city'), dark alley roads leading down into residential neighborhoods ('ghetto streets'), increased traffic due to open lanes on I-55 connecting downtown Hannibal with rural areas beyond (eastern Macon County contains much abandoned landPerfect for setting up chop shops!) Additionally three large shopping malls - Lord & Taylor(originally anchored by Sears), JCPenney(anchored by Kmart), Macy's - were constructed throughout greater Hannibal during this time period creating combined retail space totaling nearly 600 acres (~260 ha). With so much development taking place rapidly within such limited boundaries Joseph Marino had difficulty keeping up with demand resulting in multiple Store closures starting around 2005-'06 [-15],[16]), later becoming owner/operator once again before finally shuttingtered completely late last year amidst allegations he mismanaged finances going BACK TO THE 1980S [-17],[18])
