Also during this time, Romeoville played an important role in helping shape American law by hosting a number of legal hearings which later made it into U.S Supreme Court decisions like "Dred Scott v Illinois" (1857), "Plessy v Ferguson" (1896), "Schenck v Stroud" (1915) and "Goudreau v Meier" (1928). In 1939, president Franklin D Roosevelt delivered an address at Catholic University School of Law where he announced plans for new federal government agencies like Social Security Administration and Veterans Affairs which would be based out of Romeoville; these programs were eventually created as well as many other important laws during his presidency including the New Deal which helped spur economic development during the Great Depression era.).
