Rolling Meadows, Illinois was a small town located in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 2,549 at the 2000 census. It is now a ghost town and ZIP code 60517. The first settler in Rolling Meadows was David Hendrickson who arrived on October 15, 1836. He founded what is now known as Hendrickson's Landing on the current site of the town. The community grew rapidly and by 1845 it had a population of 1,500 people. In 1847, Rollin Aiken purchased land in Rolling Meadows from David Hendrickson for $300. Aiken built a house there which he called "Aiken's Grove". The village continued to grow and by 1860 it had a population of 3,000 people. On December 25, 1861, Rollin Aiken married Sarah Jane White from Decatur Township. They would eventually have six children: John (1862-1946), Nathan (1864-1948), Franklin (1866-1960), Emma (1868-1920), Lillie Belle (1870-1927) and Edward Everett White (1872-1945). During World War II Rollin Aiken served in the American armed forces with distinction earning the rank of lieutenant colonel. After his service he returned to Rolling Meadows where he died on July 21st 1946 at age 90 years old after years of hard work ethic and dedication to his community
