The Rock Island Railroad was founded on the bluffs overlooking the city in 1852 and became one of the top carriers of mail in America. The first people to live on what is now Rock Island may have been hunter-gatherers who roamed near the site from around 12,000 years ago. In 100 AD, Rome established an military camp on this location known as Fort Howard after defeating a group of Native Americans at that point. From here they began their conquests across Northwestern Europe and North America including what is now Illinois and Michigan Territory (now Indiana). In 1851, when much of present-day Illinois was still part of Wisconsin, Abraham Lincoln traveled through Sangamon County on his way to become President. When he reached Chicago he took public transit up State Street to get back to his hotel by train so he could attend a dinner given by Senator David Davis at Town Hall Square located just east of downtown Chicago along Lake Michigan Boulevard - then called Dearborn Avenue - later renamed Madison Avenue following Bloomingdales store founder John Dennison's donation in 1903. This event signaled the beginning of what would become one of Americas busiest railroads with over 2 million passenger trips annually by 1915! In 1912 Rock Island became an incorporated town; it did not join Cook County until 1931 when Cook county was merged into Illinois statehood! Today Rock Island remains one of America's most vibrant cities with vibrant arts scenes and ample nightlife options despite being only about 60% urban! In addition to its popular tourist destinations such as Millennium Park Zoo & Aquarium – which has been home to some Of The Worlds Most expensive pandas since 2000 – there are also several smaller locales worth checking out like Midtown Arts District or Old Mill Creek Brewery which overlooks Lockport Harbor/Watershed park district from its own backyard complete with Period Piece architecture from circa 1800!!
