Rock Island, Illinois is home to the world’s second-largest gun lubrication plant. The plant was started in 1907 by J.B. Spaulding and continued operation by his son, J.B. Spaulding Jr., until it closed in 1984. Rock Island’s history with lubrication dates back to 1881 when a man named John Pritchard patented a system for use on guns that allowed them to be cleaned and oiled without the use of brute force or extreme heat. Lubricants were first used on pistols during World War 1 in order to prevent barrelSweetening (a process where saliva is introduced into the bore of a rifle in order to make it more corrosive) from happening and causing rust defects in the barrels of participating units. In 1919, a company called “Dow Corning Rubber Company” began marketing a product called “Gun Lube Number One” which consisted of an all-purpose grease made from xylene and castor oil combined with soft cloths or paper towels for wiping down firearms after use. Gun lubes were gradually becoming more common throughout the 1920s as advances were made in manufacturing technology and ammunition quality; however, they remained relatively unknown outside of militaries until 1951 when Dow produced their own line of handgun lube products under the name “Pistol Lube Company” In 1954, Rock Island became one of two plants worldwide responsible for producing both hard coatings (an extremely durable paint finish applied to exterior surfaces) and chrome plating services for both firearms manufacturers and consumers alike. Hard coatings are used today on many high-end auto brands such as Lexus, Acura, Audi TT etc., while chrome plating provides an ornate look on firearms like handguns and rifles

Rock Island is a city in and the county seat of Rock Island County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,609 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most populous cities in Illinois and one of its largest in terms of land area. It occupies a valley between two ridges of mountains that run east-west. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Rock Island were French colonists who set up camp near the present day Village of Kankakee on October 12, 1763. A small community grew up around this initial settlement, but it was abandoned during the early 18th century due to lack of resources and other challenges. In 1806, local fur trader Samuel Proctor founded a new village at what is now Rock Island Falls on the southern edge of Rock Island Valley. This village prospered for several years until it was destroyed by a fire in 1814. Rock Island became an organized town on February 14, 1836 when it merged with neighboring Aurora Township (later Cairo Township). On January 1, 1840, another merger took place when West Aurora Township (later Elmhurst Township) joined forces with neighboring East Aurora Township (later Lombard Heights). These mergers created what is now Rock Island County. On April 25, 1861–two days after Abraham Lincoln announced his Kansas-Nebraska Act which granted slavery free territory within Ulysses S Grant’s reconstructed United States—the Union flag was raised over Fort Dearborn as part of celebrations marking Illinois’ entry into the Union as a slave state under Abraham Lincoln’s watch as president. This event also signaled the end of African American occupancy within Rock Island County; all black people were relocated to Decatur and Champaign Counties soon thereafter pursuant to white flight from central Illinois following the American Civil War. Rock River flowed through downtown Rock Island for most of its history before being diverted southward along I-88 shortly after World War II began in order to make way for more manufacturing plants and military activities located along that corridor during that time period. The diversion has caused some inconvenience for residents since then; examples include potholes dug deep below ground during construction projects resulting in water infiltration and total loss or reduction in visibility while driving down I-88 at night Recently there have been rising concerns about potential environmental impacts associated with heavy industrial development nearby including large open pits adjacent to surface water sources which could release harmful toxins if disturbed

By 1895, most modern artillery pieces were based on rifled barrels firing projectiles at high velocities (factory loads) which required precise lubrication so that movement of the projectile did not result in fracture or misfire due to potential dryness between barrel surfaces during storage/disassembly/cleaning etc... The railroad ran through the town until it was destroyed by a fire in 1951. Today, most of the original infrastructure remains in use including parts of the tracks that run through downtown. The early days of Rock Island were difficult times with few resources and little support from outside investors. Despite this difficulty, the Porter brothers determined to make their community a success and built a mill, store, school and other necessary amenities. One of the earliest achievements of Rock Island was its growth as an agricultural center with successful grain farming practices dating back to at least 1839. This success led to Rock Island becoming known as "the Grain City." In 1850, two years after incorporation as a city, Rock Island made history when it became home to America's first steamboat harbor on Lake Michigan! Steamboats brought goods and passengers between Chicago and Milwaukee via Lake Michigan until they were replaced by air travel during World War II. Rock Island experienced several economic setbacks during prohibition era but persevered nevertheless developing into an important transportation hub for Midwest Prohibition smuggling operations The post-war period saw rapid growth with many new businesses being established such as breweries and garment factories while professional athletes continued to call Rock Island home including Vince Lombardi ( football) who coached at local high schools before coming to play at Northwestern University
Rock Island is a small town and county seat in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 21,845 as of the 2010 census.
