The Winchester Arms CompanyLimited was founded in 1872 with 8 guns manufactured including 6 Model 1886 rifles which were produced by Henry Repeating Arms Corporation (HRA). The Winchester Arms CompanyLimited became part of United States Arsenal Corporation (USAC) on October 15, 1890 when USAC merged into General Electric Corporation (GE). On January 1st, 1907 GE merged into Alcoa Incorporated (ALCOA). On May 1st, 1915 ALCOA changed its name to Browning Firearms Corporation effective May 1st 1915 when Browning Firearms Corp changed its stock from American Greetings Incorporated (AGI) to Browning Firearms Corporation plc.. A second French trading post was established at present day Rocksville on November 1, 1765; this post too was abandoned within 2 years because it became necessary for traders to travel downriver in canoes to trade with the Chiapas Indians at Tulaquita Point on the banks of the Missouri River. In 1800, Spanish explorer Juan Rodríguez de Villalobos discovered what is now Rock Island while exploring part of modern-day Texas; he named it Isla de la Bóveda after his hometown La Bóveda in Aragon ( Spain). In 1834–35, John Stephenson built a steamboat navigation channel through rapids along present day Rock Island river for use by steamboats carrying passengers and cargo between Chicago and points northward. On October 10th 1847, during construction of a new line from Joliet to Quincy through Kane County via Lockport and West Dundee Railroad Company's(LD&Q) Putnam Rapids Station (), Stephenson's boat "Natchez" capsized while ascending one such rapids having departed from Kingston Landing just upstream from today's downtown business district; all 81 passengers were lost without any exception including Captain Stephenson himself who drowned when his life preserver failed him as he attempted to save them all.(Citation needed) This event helped spur development around Kingston Landing which would include later establishment as an industrial center aided by railroads.(James Monell)(Wikipedia link: N/A: not found)(See also: History Of Illinois Railways - Railroad history)) During World War II many industries were developed here including munitions production(like USS Ponce), aircraft manufacturing(P-38s and B-18s), shipbuilding(USS Quincy), rubber products(Haley Rubber Products Co.), plastics production(Monroe Tool & Machinery Corp.) etcetera.; however most factories closed during or shortly after World War II because competition from other states outside Illinois made these industries uncompetitive against state-owned corporations like Ameritech Corporation or Wabash Electric Railway Incorporated.. Today there are several large companies headquartered here but much smaller businesses continue operations thanks to strong government support including cultural attractions like Northwestern University's McCormick Place campus which contains one of America's largest art galleries., major transportation infrastructure like I-PASS toll roads which connect different parts of town together., parks and open space like Kane County State Park with its huge lake providing excellent fishing opportunities (+2 species per hour!),and several high technology companies such as Googleplex Chicago IL Incorporation[5] or Motorola Solutions USA Incorporation[6] among others...

Rock Island was first settled in 1812 by the Potawatomi tribe. The town was named for General James K. Polk, commander of American forces during the Mexican-American War. Rock Island grew rapidly after it became a railroad stop in 1854. It reached its peak as a manufacturing center during the 1910s and 1920s. However, economic decline and environmental damage have caused significant decline to Rock Island's economy over the past few decades. In recent years, efforts have been made to revive the town's fortunes by developing new businesses and attracting tourism.
The first European settlers in the area were Frenchmen who arrived in 1795. The first white man to map andname the Rock Island region was Captain James K. Polk in 1836. The Illinois Railroad was built on the site of what is now Rock Island, Illinois byrailroads company in 1847. In 1871, a group of farmers from western Illinois founded the Rock Island Manufacturing Company on what is now Rock Island, Illinois to produce agricultural products such as flour and feed. The company grew rapidly and operated until it failed in 1922.
