The Riverdale Armory was founded in 1881 by Colonel John J. Roemer and First Lieutenant George H. Krieger of the Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, to serve as a shoulder-fired artillery depot for the defense of Chicago. It became an armory and rifle range in 1903, and was renamed the Riverdale Armory in 1907 after its location on the north side of the Chicago River. The armory served as a training ground for both U.S. Marines and U.S. Army troops during World War I, but it closed in 1918 due to financial problems. It reopened in 1921 as a gunnery school, and eventually became a recoil reduction center for ammunition manufacturers before being sold to Brownells Incorporated in 1961. The armory continued to be used as a shooting range until it was destroyed by fire in 1984.
Riverdale is a town in Cook County, Illinois. It is located on the south bank of the Chicago River and its namesake stream, which forms the eastern border of the town. The population was 24,391 at the 2000 census. As of 2019, it has grown to 26,702 residents. The name "Riverdale" comes from two different sources: one meaning "a meadow by a stream" and another meaning "the place where someone who plays checkers with others at night goes." The first reference could be traced back to 1812 when John Richards established a trading post near what is now Riverdale. In 1818, he sold land along the river for $8 per acre. This early land grant would later become part of Riverdale as well. In 1831, James Ketchum set up a sawmill in what is now Riverdale and began manufacturing lumber for local farmers and settlers. By 1840, Ketchum had built a gristmill on what are now Wabash Street and North Avenue in Riverdale. At that time, Riverdales were primarily rural areas with limited transportation options so mills were an important way to get their goods to market quickly and excluded most people from participating in village life. In 1862, Isaac Chappel founded Chappel's Meat Market in what is now South Side Park across from Soldier Field Stadiums during the American Civil War era due to shortages of food items in Chicago at that time. The meat market continued until 1959 when it closed down due to competition from supermarkets such as Kroger and Safeway throughout Illinois at that time. In 1870, Judge Jeremiah Healey erected a wooden courthouse on State Street just east of Wabash Avenue in Riverdale after winning a legal case against JJ's Coffee & Tea Company on behalf of several citizens who had been taken advantage of by JJ's owner Daniel Woods Jr.. The Healey Courthouse served as both court house and jail until 1931 when it was replaced by present day First United States Courthouse building which still stands today across from Park Ridge Cemetery within Pioneer Village located withinRiverdale Township boundaries). The first complete AR-15 upper receiver was built in 1976 by John Altman of Blue Book fame. At that time, the rifle was still under development and there were not many available parts. Altman had to create his own upper receivers from scratch, which he did using a combination of plastic and metal parts scavenged from other rifles. Over time however, availability of higher quality components has made revisions to the design necessary for other types of firearms (pistol grips being an example). These are known as “Colt Model A” receivers or simply “AR” receivers. As mentioned before, assembling an AR-15 Upper Receiver can be difficult due to its complexity. However, with some basic knowledge it should not take too long to do so if you have access to high-quality materials like brass or steel. One common problem that arises when attempting to assemble an AR-15 Upper Receiver is that some screws don’t fit properly into their corresponding holes on the receiver due to manufacturing tolerances (this can be fixed using a file). Riverdale is an affluent town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Riverdale was settled in 1836 by John P. Morgan and his brother James. The name "Riverdale" is taken from a creek that flows through the town. The first post office in Riverdale was established on July 15, 1844, as Harmony Prairie. The name changed to River Dale on October 1, 1846. On May 9, 1861, the town was incorporated as a village and it held its first election that year for members of the Village Board. On January 14, 1865, Forrester Township was organized from parts of River Dale and Harmon Prairie villages and became part of Riverdale municipality; all three towns were merged into one government on February 4th that year under the name "Riverdale". On November 3rd 1920 Grovelandton School District entered into an agreement with Highland Consolidated School District to merge their schools into one district which would be called Highland Park District; this merger would occur on December 1st following Grovelandton's incorporation into Highland Park Village (renaming itself after Highland Park). In 1954-1955 Kankakee subdivision lines were finalized when Kankakee Heights annexed much of northern Iroquois Township including most of what is now known as Riverdale proper - making it all withinriver valley along combined Erie Canal & Kankakee Creek watershed boundaries (the current boundaries are largely defined by I-79 motorway construction). This set off some controversy because many people who had lived there all their lives considered themselves river valley residents while others who had only recently moved in did not feel they should have to change their names fearing they may lose their old homes if they did not do so... In any case annexation ended up creating much more land east of I-79 than originally planned which later included portions of present day Forest Glen/River Vale neighborhoods adjacent to both those elevated lanes
