It is no secret that River Forest, Illinois is home to one of the most firearms-friendly cities in America. No one was killed but three people were injured: two women who came into contact with bullets and one man who was hit by ricochets from a rifle being fired from a distance. The city’s first ordinance regulating firearm use only went into effect in 1886; at that time handguns only could be possessed by those over 21 years old with a valid hunting license or a “semiautomatic pistol” chambered for any type of ammunition other than percussion caps (which gave shotguns their nickname “shotgunners’ paradise”). In 1895 alcohol prohibition began officially taking hold in America so gunowners had little choice but to comply or face arrest. But even before Prohibition arrived,River Forest residents had become increasingly armed due to concerns about crime rates – since 1865 allriverforestrecords show at least 1125 occasions when gunshots have been reported within the city limits! The River Forest community was first organized in 1871. It spread out around the Chicago River, and later became a separate municipality. The name of the town is derived from the fact that it flowed through forested areas. The community was located near what is now Wicker Park and Fullerton Park.
