In 1906, Mayor John Pritzker established River Forest's first school district; it included all of Cook County except parts of Bridgeview and Glen Ellyn which belonged to Ravenswood School Districts One and Two respectively. That same year saw also its first playing field: Grant Park had been developed as a Workman's Village on property donated by Philip Armour & Co., later renamed American Tool Works Incorporated (ATEDCO). The River Forest community of Illinois was founded in 1847, when the Chicago and Adena Railroad extended its line through the area.
