River Forest, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. River Forest is located on the west bank of the DuPage River and has a total area of 2 square miles (5 km²). The village was founded in 1837 by John Harris as a result of his purchase of land from the Saco Company. The present name for River Forest comes from two sources: one source said that General James Dearborn called it "the forest near Rome", while another source says he thought it sounded like "forest where I could walk to my work." The name stuck and today's village includes both Harris Landing and Dearborn Heights areas. The Village originally consisted of just a few houses and barns on what is now Main Street. In 1848, dairy operations began within minutes of each other onMain Street and Roosevelt Road which created havoc with traffic congestion on busy streets in our early days! A new road was built parallel to Main Street which still exists today as Roosevelt Road. This road served as an artery for goods transported into or out of our village; it also connected Old-Fashioned Stores with newer stores along Roosevelt Road. Today’s businesses include several restaurants, three banks (One United National Bank, First American Bancorp, Ameritech), four convenience stores/grocery stores including Walmart Supercenter (in Dearborn Heights), several large homes developments dating back to the late 1800s and Early 1900s as well as numerous smaller dwellings completed since then - all within walking distance or bike riding distance from downtown River Forest! We believe that this tiny community offers something unique that no other towns can claim – an incredible mix of old world charm with modern day amenities! There are many interesting things about River Forest that make it stand out from other towns in Cook County: 1) It may be small but there’s always something going on here – whether it’s live music concerts at night or farmers markets during the morning hours; or events like river walks that allow you to get close up and experience everything nature has to offer! 2) There are also plenty of parks available for residents to use such as Riverside Park which features a large pond filled with fish; West Side Park featuring baseball diamonds, some golf courses (including one less than 1 mile away!), soccer fields, running trails & more; East Side Park boasts a beautiful waterfall & play area; Hubbard Woods Golf Course located only 10 minutes outside your door; even Deer Path State Natural Area contains natural formations including caves & rapids! And finally there are plenty of restaurants listed here so you don't have to spend any time traveling if you wantto dine in style!

River Forest is an affluent suburb of Chicago, Illinois. The name comes from the many small rivers that run through the area and provide water for irrigation. The first settlers in River Forest were farmers who arrived in the early 19th century. They built homes on hills near current-day Elmhurst and Tinley Park, and started a dairy business. In 1912, River Forest became a municipality with its own government. The popularity of River Forest began to grow after World War II when people moved there for the good schools, housing prices, and easy access to jobs in Cook County. Over time, however, some residents began to complain about how their community was being run. In 2006, a group of citizens called "The Citizens' Committee for Change" formed to try and make changes to River Forest's ways. The committee soon realized that there was much work still to be done before their community could reach its full potential as a residential and economic center. One key goal of the committee was to promote transportation choices in River Forest so that people could get more out of their day than just walk or bike ride around town. They also wanted to increase diversity within the community by creating opportunities for different businesses and organizations to come together and collaborate on projects. By 2013, progress had been made towards these goals; however, more work needs to be done if River Forest wants to remain one of Chicago's most vibrant communities
River Forest began as a small community on the Missouri River in 1811. The area was first settled by families of French and British descent, and the town was named for the forest that lay to the east. By 1829, the population had grown to over 100 people and the community was renamed River Forest Park. In 1892, River Forest became a city under the name of Chicago.
