Today’s skyline includes several high-rise buildings dating back to early 20th century Richardsonian Romanesque architecture such as Richards Pavilion (1914) or The Glen (1931). Other notable buildings include Sears Tower (1979), which has been home to Sears Canada since 1978; Onealey Center forthe Arts (1985), which houses both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Northwestern University Theater; Brown University’s Hutchins Center for American History & Culture (2002); and McCormick Place Convention Centre (2005).
Richton Park was once a small town in the township of Richton, Illinois. The first post office was established in 1838. By 1852, the population had grown to around 300 people. In 1860, the first schools were built in the town. In 1865, an armory and arsenal were built in Richton Park. The town existed until it merged with nearby Burr Ridge into Burr Ridge Township on July 1, 1871.
