Richton Park is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Richton Park was John Pritchard on July 2, 1848. The town was organized on November 1, 1851 by a group of farmers and merchants who had gathered to petition for incorporation. In 1860, the town passed an ordinance establishing a Board of Education to provide public education for residents. The first school in Richton Park opened its doors on October 17, 1860. In 1865, Richton Park became home to the Western Union Telegraph Office which helped create one of the largest exchanges in America at that time. In 1903-04, when Republican Grover Cleveland was elected president and all but two of Illinois' eighteen congressional districts were redrawn following the Census of 1910), Richton Park's only representative (Drury) switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican so that he could vote in support of him during his confirmation hearings as attorney general. Richton Park is a community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 146 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village of Richton Park was organized on December 15, 1878, from parts of the towns of Tinley and Palatine. The name "Richton" was chosen to honor Judge Augustus A. Richter (1796-1868), one of the original incorporators of Cook County. On February 3, 1880, Richton Park had a schoolhouse and three stores; seven years later it had a post office and four churches. By 1900, there were twenty-one businesses in Richton Park and its population had grown to over 500 people. In 1912 an express train station opened in Richton Park by Illinois Central Railroad company president John Pritzker with land donated by him and his wife Clara Barton Pritzker. This made it possible for people living in different parts of the city to get their mail here quickly instead of having to go to different stations during rushhour. In 1956–57, when extensions were being built into Loop 610 north from downtown Chicago along Michigan Avenue, Richton Park became one of several communities within walking distance of the new development so that residents could have easy access to jobs and services without having to leave their homes or neighborhoods. The village's first store—a convenience store—was built on State Street just south of Hoyne Road in 1957 and soon addition followed: another convenience store on North Sample Road in 1961; an auto dealership on West Sample Road in 1968; a medical center/hospital on South Waterfield Avenue between Hoyne Boulevard and Clark Boulevard in 1969;and finally a housing development called One Village Place which included 524 units developments starting construction in 1978 across from McCormick Place shopping center

In 1839, Richton Park became a town and its first Mayor was John A. Geary. The town had a population of around 300 people and it's first school opened in 1840. In 1851, Richton Park became an incorporated city and its first Mayor was Jno Sayers. The city had a population of about 1,000 people and it's first library opened in 1861. In 1903, the city merged with nearby Bloomingdale to form the present-day Chicago metropolitan area
