Richton Park, Illinois is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was named after General George Washington's birthplace on the Potomac River in Virginia. The first settler in Richton Park was John Richardson who arrived in 1815. By 1825, several other families had come to the area and started what would become a successful agricultural enterprise with their own land and slaves. In 1827, a post office called Richton Park was established and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1838, three brothers founded a textile mill that became one of DuPage County's largest employers for over 60 years. In 1886, the mills were sold to J&J Steptoe & Co., which moved them to Downers Grove, Illinois but kept Richton Park as its corporate headquarters until 1984 when it merged with Steptoe & Baer Incorporated to form JRB Incorporated. In 1937–1938, during World War II (the Second World War), Richton Park served as an important training ground for DuPage County troops and Air Force officers participating in Operation Torch which led to Allied victory against Nazi Germany across North Africa and Europe. Known as "The Training Ground of the Nation", this period saw many local residents join the military or enter into related fields such as engineering or architecture; some even went on to achieve great success postwar including two local mayors (John Fritchey and Richard Jaffe) and six members of Congress fromDuPage County (all Republicans). Following World War II both businesses declined but new technology arrived with television production starting nearby at Aurora-based WGN-TV beginning operations on November 3rd 1948 while Richton Park continued serving as an important center for industrial hemp production through Tillman’s Hempstead Farms until 1969 when those activities were transferred to Peoria along with most other DuPage Valley employer assets becoming part of Midwestern Tobacco Corporation newly formed out of amalgamation of several tobacco companies nationwide following passage by Congress of The National Industrial Recovery Act Of 1939 which created government sponsored monopsony regulations prohibiting interstate trade by private industry within any particular geographic market

Richton Park was founded in 1837, and is the oldest continuously inhabited community in the Chicago metropolitan area. The community has a rich history that can be found from its earliest days as a small farming village to its current location as an affluent suburb of Chicago. The first settlers to Richton Park were farmers who arrived in 1837 from Holland. They established a small farm on the east side of town, which they named Noeckenhausen after their landlord, Friedrich Naecker. The village grew quickly and soon had a population of around 50 residents. In 1840, two brothers named John and George Richtland purchased land adjacent to the original farmstead and began to build a house there. The house was completed by 1846 and became known as the Richardson House. In 1847, Richtland sold his property to Michael Reese Sr., one of the founders of Reese's Coffee Shop on State Street in downtown Chicago. At this time, Richton Park consisted of only a few houses and some stores along state street. With Reese's Coffee Shop as its nucleus, it continued to grow rapidly - by 1850, it had become an incorporated village with a population of over 100 people. By 1860, however, Reese's Coffee Shop had closed down and most of the inhabitants had moved away for various reasons including technological advances that made agriculture less profitable; during this time period also came changes in Chicago political landscape which led to increasing social unrest throughout much of Illinois (Richton Park would remain largely unaffected). In 1865-66 Chauncey Bolton opened what would become one of Illinois' first bowling alleys at 5th & Michigan avenue - this being followed shortly thereafter by other businesses such as hardware stores or grocery stores opening up around town; these conversions helped contribute significantly to early Richton Park's growth prospects despite competition from larger cities within commuting distance (such as Oak Lawn or West Side). Over time many other businesses sprang up - including several banks - helping support rapid growth while providing jobs for locals both during boom times (when prices were high) and during slower times when prices were lower but still high enough for many people to afford housing outsideof city limits (this situation lasted until about 1930.). Richton Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,851 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Richton Park Township. The first settlers in what is now Richton Park were Gideon and family who came from eastern New York in 1814. They settled on a farm near the present-day intersection of John Fitch Road and US-41/IL Route 51. Gideon's son Solomon built the first house on what is now John Fitch Road in 1827. By 1830, most of the family had moved to Chicago because of the great gold Rush there. In 1837, Capt. James Wigglesworth bought land east of where he lived onpresent day Stony Island Avenue for $1,000 ($ as of 2019). He called his new community "Wigglesworthville". In 1840–41, he platted three blocks north of his original home on Prairie View Ave., which became known as "Richmond Hill" after him and his wife Catherine (née Knox) donated that block to Richton Park Township trustees in 1847. At this time,Richmond Hill consisted only of two lots: one south of Randolph Street and one north of Prairie View Ave.. In 1865, General James Shields visited Richmond Hill while enroute to Springfield with reinforcements during the American Civil War and ordered all houses pulled down so that troops could sleep without fear of being disturbed by civilians or Union soldiers;Shields also ordered Mrs. Shields' home at 2642 Prairie View Ave., which still stands today (although its windows are boarded up), to be used as a hospital morgue until it can be rebuilt according to National Historic Style guidelines for such structures within 750 feet (210 m) OF any museum or public building... A fire destroyed part of Shield's home northeast of where it remains today on Sep 12th 1893 when employees at Armour & Black found coal seam gas under property leased from McDonnell Lumber Co.; repairs were eventually made but not completed until 2000 In 1899 several shops along Randolph road between current day Wrigley Field Blvd./Illinois state line and South Side will open their doors for business Widener Coal Mining Co.; these stores closed circa 1961 when mine operations stopped due to health concerns about black lung Disease among workers One store opened late 1960s by brothers Bob & Dale Widener located just off I-57 and I-794 EB outside town Limits
