The Richardson Park Gun Slings Site was founded in 1814 by Capt. Nathan Carden, a volunteer soldier who served in the American Revolution. The site is located on the banks of the Galena River, just east of downtownRichmond Heights. The Richardson Park Gun Slings Site was used primarily for target practice and hunting during its early years. However, it soon became known as a place where people could come and get shooting lessons from local instructors. In 1831, Capt. Nathan Carden donated land to the park to house his gunslinger school. The school continued to operate until 1848 when it was replaced by the present-dayRichmond Park Rifle Club. During World War II,Richmond Park was home to 2 U.SArmy Airfields: Richmond Field (later Pima Air Force Base) and Greenhaven Army Airfield (now Goodyear Airport). Both airfields were used extensively for bombing and fighter training during World War II. One of Richmond Field's famous hangars still stands today thanks to its use during that time period! With close proximity to major employers such as Northwestern University and United Airlines Terminal 3 – home of both American Airlines Flight 90 that crashed into LaGuardia Airport on February 14th 1998 killing all seventy-two passengers on board –richton park has become known throughout Chicagoland for its world-class shopping experiences at Allens Distribution Centers across Cicero Avenue or Oneida Street or for easy access to downtown Chicago via bus lines or walkways within minutes’ distance from most residents’ homes.
