Richton Park is a town in Richton County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,772 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1836 by John and Eliza Richardson as Rifle Township, following the purchase of land from the Saco River Indian tribe. In 1840, it became a village under the name Rifle Heights. In 1879, it became a parish under the name of St. Clair and was renamed Richton Park after Mayor George Fenton Richards in 1902. In 1955, Richton Park School District No. 6 merged with Chicago Public Schools to form one large school district covering all of Cook County and parts of Kane County. The old Richton Park schools were closed in 1961 and replaced by new buildings on Calumet Avenue near State Street in east-centralRichton Park (the former Rifle Heights elementary school site). The early history of Richton Park can be traced back to 1834 when a group of men from Chicago organized what would become the first town meeting in Richton Park. The town was named after Silas A. Richter who had donated land for it. In 1837, Richardsons built their first school on land donated by them and others including John Fenton and Isaac Nottage. By 1850, over 100 people lived in Richton Park with 12 stores and two businesses. In 1857, Richardsons erected a brick courthouse that still stands today and served as the town center until 1889 when a new courthouse was constructed on State Street which now houses the Richardson School District headquarters building. In 1870, Richardsons added a Carnegie library to their community which remains open to this day as one ofDu Page's most popular attractions for tourists and residents alike. In 1902, Richton Park became part of the larger city of Chicago through an annexation agreement between Chicago and Du Page County. At this time its population totaled over 50,000 people with over 20 businesses operating within its boundaries! Over time however growth slowed as automobiles replaced horse-drawn buggies as our primary transportation mode; consequently many businesses closed or relocated within beloved neighborhoods such as Winnetka or Wheaton (now Orland Hills). A major milestone forrichton park occurred on April 15th 1969 when Mayor Richard Moline announced plans to build an expressway through centralRichTON Park necessitating nearly half a century of planning! After years of careful consideration by both City Council members and citizens alike it was approved without much opposition by voters majority voting yes on November 5th 1970! From then until present there has been no lack of progress or dedication from Mayor Moline’s office towards ensuring that construction begins immediately upon completion!

The area now known as Richton Park was originally part of what was then called Fordow Township. On February 14, 1847, the village of Richton Park was organized from parts of Fordow and Cicero townships. On December 12, 1853, it became a town when it amalgamated with other villages in Cook County to form the new City of Chicago. In 1907, the portion of Richton Park east of 95th Street and north of State Avenue was annexed into the neighboring city of Evanston. In 1932, all but three blocks south of State were annexed into the newly formed municipality of Oak Lawn - leaving only one block (northwest corner) still within Richton Park borders today as part of Evanston's boundaries. On September 15 and 16, 1955-56 two days after Barack Obama became an American citizen - he attended his first political rally on SaturdaySeptember 15th at John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum where he spoke about his Progressivism goals for America during those years - this event took place at Western Ave High School which is now home to Roosevelt Middle School on Wabash Ave., across from Northwest Side Golf Course which served as both rallies' venues until 2003 when Lincoln Elementary moved in next door to provide more space for both events without taking down either school's facade (Lincoln also served as home ground for many public meetings throughout Obama's presidency).
