Richton Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,907 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name comes from "Richmond Township", which was ceded to the village in 1868. The first settler in Richton Park was James Aiken who arrived on October 10, 1836. He and his family built a log cabin on what is now Elm Street. Aiken's son, Solomon Aiken, moved to Richton Park from Randolph County, Indiana in 1840 and started a tannery there. His grandson John Aiken founded a grocery store there in 1892 and another grocery store on State Street in 1907. In 1912 the Rev. Wm Halsey organized the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Richton Park with Reverends Samuel Dyer (1853-1931) and Augustus Kelley (1857-1932). The first pastor of that church was Rev William Gorman (1860-1943). In 1928 Dr William Halsey built an addition to the church that still stands today as the Dr Wm Halsey Chapel. In 1909 Charles Bensen established a grocery store and poultry market at 95th Street and State Avenue in Richton Park Village; this business became known as Bensen Bros Grocery after him and his sons Charles E., Lewis Bensen (died 1984), Irving Bensen (born 1936), Barbara Loring Bensen Vreeland (born 1937) took over it from their father when he died in 1959. Mrs Jane Addams operated her own bakery at 209 West Adams Boulevard until her death in 1942; she left behind an establishment still run by her children Anthony M., Peter J., Evelyn sofa Addams(born 1956), Deborah Addams(born 1957)). In 1962 Harry Moody opened his first retail business - Moody's Custom House - at 521 North Adams Boulevard which remains one of its most popular tourist attractions today since it served as both the original home of Moody's Law School from 1898 until 1978, as well as home office for various law firms during that time period including Morin & Toensing PCP LLP from 1978 until 1985; however due to increased competition by larger law firms over recent years Moody's closed its doors for good within months of opening them although some remnants remain such as memorabilia inside storefront windows visible today along with some old courtroom dossiers used by attorneys during legal cases dating back to those days In 1966 Dick Noland opened his restaurant called "Noland's" at 601 North Adams Boulevard serving Americanized Czech cuisine using produce grown on site rather than going through Chicago distributors like most other restaurants then or later did In 1974 Harry Moody reopened his restaurant called "Moody's Custom House" following several years closure due to increasing competition by larger law firms . This building remains one of its most popular tourist attractions today even though it served as both home office for various law firms during that time period including Morin & Toensing PCP LLP from 1978 until 1985 despite increase competition by larger law firms over recent years

The first settler to live in present-day Richton Park was David Brainerd, who arrived in 1812. He and his family founded a small farm on the east side of today's Madison Avenue between First and Second Streets. In 1826, Richton Park was organized as a village; it remained an unincorporated community until it became a city on November 1, 1959. In 1865, General John A. McClernand built Fort Dearborn near what is now Union Station in Richton Park for the purpose of invading and annexing Cass County; after McClernand's death in 1865, his troops abandoned their fortifications and integrated into the newly formed Illinois State Police Department (ISP). Fort Dearborn served as a garrison for ISP until 1886 when it was disbanded following the acquisition of jurisdiction over all Cook County by the state government. In 1903–1904, ISP Superintendent George Halleck designed and constructed what is now Midtown High School in Richton Park for use by students from Cook County high schools that were then located outside of Chicago proper. On November 1, 1959,Richton Park became aCity under Mayor Richard J. Daley with strong African American representation having been gained through voter registration drives conducted by various organizations such as SNCC which had emerged following passage of The Civil Rights Act Of 1964 during Lyndon B Johnson's presidency
