Richton Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 55,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County and home to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It was founded in 1834 by John Richton and rises along the east bank of the DuPage River from its junction with High Street to within a few blocks of downtown Chicago. The city was named after Richton's estate on the north side of the river. In 1835, John Richton donated land to be used as a town site and offered free water to anyone who built their house there. The first settler in what is now Richtion Park was James Hickey, who bought land two miles (3 km) south of town from Nicholas Flournoy on July 10, 1835. By 1840, over 60 lots had been sold in or near present-day Richtion Park; however, only one house began construction until October 25 that year when George Hull erected his sawmill on Goose Creek just west of town line. In 1842 George Hull married Sarah Jourdan and moved his mill to what is today Elmhurst Road just east of present-dayRichtion Park; this mill became one of America's largest paper manufacturers for many years following its establishment. On December 26th 1861 Abraham Lincoln made an appearance at a dinner given by Judge Augustus Kelley in honor of Mr. & Mrs Lincoln before attending a ball given by Mayor Whitehall that evening at Beecher's Hotel northeast corner State Street & State Avenue (now part of McCormick Place). After dinner President Lincoln walked about 2 blocks southwest from Beecher's across State Street towards Water Works Hall then returned northwest up State Avenue back into Beecher's Hotel where he stopped for cigars before retiring for the night; he stayed overnight here rather than attend meetings scheduled for January 1st which were held at Case House west side Jackson Boulevard (now part as well as other locations including Ford’s Theatre). After Abraham Lincoln’s death on April 6th 1865 several prominent citizens gathered around Mr Isaac Nisbet’s small theater complex northwest corner Randolph Street & Wabash Avenue for viewing his casket being carried into state ground outside Springfield but no services were conducted due to lack horse power and poor weather conditions; instead flowers were placed all around his open casket throughout Illinois -raeling perhaps symbolically how much President Abraham Lincoln enjoyed life both inside and outside his final resting place according to historian Harry Smith.. On November 3rd 1907 plaques honoring General Ulysses S Grant were dedicated adjacent to Soldier Field off Soldier Road just beyond today's Little Italyowntown area which soon became known as Grant Park where baseball games are still played annually starting May 5th prior to Navy/Marine Corps games located further south along Lake Shore Drive between West Side Highway - now Michigan Ave.-and Adams Morgan neighborhood boundaries adjacent thereto

Richton Park is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Village of Richton Park was organized on March 20, 1879 from parts of the towns of Skokie and Evanston. The first town meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Sarah Laughlin on May 10th. At that meeting it was decided to name the village after John Richardson who had donated land for its establishment. A post office called Richton Park was established in 1882, and remained in operation until it was closed by the Postal Service in 1967. The village has experienced growth over time due to its location within a large urban area and its role as a transportation hub for Chicagoans commuting to various points in the city or beyond. In 1840, Isaac Dunham settled on what is now Richton Park east of present day Elmhurst Road and built a log cabin which he named Dunham's Grove after his father-in-law, Noah Dunham (1772-1848). In 1851 surveyors laid out lots around what are now Richardsonsville Road and Elmhurst Road and began construction on what would become Richton Park Township! On July 4th, 1881, Richton Park Township officially became an independent municipality! By 1900 there were already over 100 residents living in Richton Park Township! One important event that occurred during this early era took place when metallurgical engineer Elijah Griggs visited the township on October 16th, 1901 to assess some potential new Metallurgical Ventures being undertaken by Drs John PemberTON & Abram Selden with their firm name "Griggs Metallurgical Company". Their visit marked an important milestone for Richardson Park as it signaledthe commencement of heavy industry flowing into township coffers! This influx of new technology led to many advancements throughout our community including: enactment of Regular School District No 2; creationof medical clinics; establishmentof parks;establishmentoftheFirstTelevisionStationinAmerica(1947);and more... Today we continue to experience these advances through our beautiful community park system which includes trails/playgrounds/median age group development centers/cafeterias/historic buildings and much more!!!
