Rantoul, Illinois is a small town in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois. It is bordered by McHenry County to the north, Will County to the east, and Lake Michigan to the south. The population was 9,879 at the 2010 census. Rantoul is one of eight townships in Cook County. The first settler in what would become Rantoul was George Haggerty who arrived in 1812. He platted the town on a bluff overlooking Chicago Bay and named it after his brother-in-law, Randolph Castleman. The town quickly grew and soon had a store, schoolhouse and library. In 1834, John Wesley Taylor purchased land in Rantoul from Randolph Castleman for $1,000.Taylor developed what became known as "the Prairie School District" which included parts of today's downtown Rantoul as well as areas around present day Ives Park and west of downtown Chicago. In 1841 when Robert Myres founded Mount Carmel Academy on 7 acres (2 ha) near modern day Wauconda – now part of Maywood – he also established a school which became one of the most successful private academies in America and helped spur suburban growth all across Cook County during its early days. By 1860 there were over 100 residents living in rural township form within 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of their primary businesses; however only 10% or soof these residents lived within 2 miles (3 km) of their school or church services Accordingly many farmers opted not to live close to their crops but rather move into newly developed neighborhoods such as Hyde Park or West Side Village along Lake Michigan shorelines where they could enjoy views from their homes without having to leave their comfortable lifestyles behind petitions were circulated among township members urging them to annex neighboring municipalities although no annexation occurred until after Grant Wood moved into his large home at 5th Avenue & State Street in 1895 . One reason given for this lack of annexation action may have been because few township officials believed that an increase in population warranted additional legislative oversight In 1865 James Ayer bought 5 acres (20 ha) bordering today's south side Kedzie Avenue & Wabash Avenue from Todhunter Ames . He naming it "Ayer Municipal Township" due to its proximity to both Chicago Heights on the South Side limits and his interest therein developing business opportunities including founding a flour mill adjacent on Wacker Drive . Ayer did much more than just purchase property; he also began planning what would become laterknown as "Ayer Town Center". The first blocks off Kedzie Avenue between Wacker Drive & Oak Lawn Boulevard were designated Ayer Town Centre with five buildings: fire hall/brigade headquarters building - built 1907; post office - built 1909; garage - built 1912; Rotary Club Building - completed 1914! This designation reflected Ayer's belief that Community Development Centers should provide leadership development opportunities for local entrepreneurs while fostering economic growth potential within communities

Rantoul is a small town in LaSalle County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and has a strong agricultural base. The community lies on the banks of the Rantoul River, east of LaSalle County's capital city, Chicago. The first European to visit Rantoul was Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1814 while on his way to survey land grants near present-day Downers Grove. He named it after General Jean Baptiste de Rantoul, who had died in 1809 during the Napoleonic Wars. A post office called Rantoul was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. According to some historians, one early settler was James Kittleman from Ohio who arrived around 1800 looking for land grants he had been promised by President George Washington. Kittleman built a cabin on what is now State Street about two miles (3 km) northwest of present-day Rantoul. His cabin served as the nucleus for what would become Kittleman Township and later Cook County. In 1848, an Act of Congress created la Salle County based on large grants made by France to Illinois landowners following its victory over Great Britain at the Battle of Waterloo; this included most or all of modern LaSalle County including present-day Rantoul township and parts of Kane and McHenry counties east thereof.. The local government under this new form continued until March 15th 1870 when all Orleans Parish units were merged into New Orleans City Government effective that date pursuant to Order No 2 dated November 25th 1865 Of The New Orleans City Council In pursuance ToOrdinance No 9 entitled 'An Ordinance For Enlarging And Adjusting The boundaries Of The City Of New Orleans' By reason thereof There Is hereby set Forth In This Paper A Map Showing All That Is Said To Be Within The Limits OF Our Town Of RantouL' . Aftermaths: On July 14th1877 a trainload of white settlers from Illinois came through town on their way to "Chicago" where they founded what would become White Settlement #1 along with other towns like Davenport (now Des Plaines), Rockford (now Rockford Hills), Normal Park (now Northbrook), Aurora (now Schaumburg), Wood Dale (now Wheaton), Beloit (now Belleville), Lombard (Now Joliette). These newcomers started building homesites along State Street just north of today's intersection with Hwy 90A/ US 12W – these were soon followed by others such as Black Hawk Prairie which grew up around what are now Indian Road and Westcott Road off I-80W - these streets became known as Main Street/State Avenue within 10 years or so after their incorporation into town proper! Today many descendants still live thereabouts - active farmers since before WW2!
