The musket also had a stock which you would grip to use it like an ordinary pistol. Many people believed that this type of firearm would eventually become extinct because it was not very efficient at using ammunition and required lots of practice to get good results. However, this is not what happened! The popularity of the musket led to another type of handgun being invented called the revolver. A revolver is simply an ignition device used on some firearms to allow them to fire multiple rounds per minute (also known as “rounds per second”). revolvers were very popular in the 1800s because they allowed people to carry more ammunition with them than they could ever carry with either their rifles or shotguns. Rantoul is a town in central Illinois, United States. The population was 8,500 at the 2010 census. It lies in Kane County and is the county seat of Rantoul County. The history of Rantoul goes back to 1818 when it was part of the Kalamazoo Territory within Michigan. In 1836, it became a part of Illinois and was renamed after Randolph County, Virginia – one of the original thirteen states admitted to the Union as a result of the Compromise of 1850. The town has always been an agricultural center with substantial production of corn, cotton, soybeans, and other crops. A major industry for many years have been poultry farms; however, this has declined in recent years because available feedstock has become more expensive. Some remaining businesses include two grocery stores (one founded in 1907), three convenience stores (including one that still operates as a hardware store), three restaurants including one known as "The Grapes", and two small churches which have served as community centers since before 2000. Rantoul is located at (41° 34′ 29″ N 95° 08′ 53″ W). According to the 2010 census, its population was 8,500 people living in 1,527 housing units. The racial makeup of Rantoul was 92% white (non-Hispanic) and 7% black or African American. Hispanic residents made up 2%. There are also sizable numbers Asian and Native American residents who make up 5% and 3%, respectively

Rantoul, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. Rantoul was founded in 1839 by Nicholas Biddle and his wife Sarah Wittman. It was named after an early settler named Randolph who had moved there from Kentucky in 1827. The community first grew around a boarding school operated by Ebenezer Cook. By 1840, Rantoul had a Methodist church and a public school. In 1851, the town's first post office opened at what is now its downtown square; it served as the only postal service within Rantoul until 1865 when it merged with nearby East Moline to form the present-day Springfield Township Postal Service. In 1870, two years after its incorporation as a township, Rantoul became an independent village under the jurisdiction of McLean County; this change followed one that year for East Moline which had become an incorporated city Limits township (the second such occurrence in McLean County). While village status did not expire until 1964 when it reverted to township status again following consolidation with East Moline into Springfield Township, autonomous Village status continued until 1984 when all villages were placed within larger municipal jurisdictions effective January 1st ballotwise_. According to the 2010 census report,[1] there are 2,835 people living in Rantoul Township: 1% White (non-Hispanic), 98% Black or African American (non-Hispanic), 0% Native American/Alaska Native (non-Hispanic), 0% Asian (non-Hispanic), 3% Hispanic or Latino (of any race), and 100% Nonresident Alien (.01%). Of these residents*, 99% identify themselves as white alone or nonwhite alone*--a percentage increase from 97%. Residents of other races make up 1%,* while 7% identify themselves as black or African American and 5% identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino*. *The table lists percentages according to race only; households listed do not necessarily identify their racial composition
The town of Rantoul was founded in 1836 by a group of Methodist ministers. The town grew rapidly, and by 1859 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1865, the United States Congress passed the Morrill Land Grant Act, which provided for the creation of new American towns in Illinois. The town of Rantoul was chosen to be one of these towns. Rantoul quickly became known as an important center for agricultural production. It also became a popular tourist destination because of its beautiful scenery and natural resources.
