Some of the town's earliest residents include John White, a settler who started farming in 1812; Elisha Fenton, a farmer who moved to Rantoul in 1848; and James Sheehan, a farmer who settled in the area in 1865. Over time, many other families also made their homes in the small community and its growing population quickly became known for its friendly environment and quality education opportunities. In 1951, Rantoul was incorporated as a municipality and has since continued to grow into one of Illinois' most vibrant communities.Today, Rantoul is known for its diverse economy - including several large businesses that specializes in manufacturing and services - as well as its strong sense of community spirit which has led it to be an important cultural center for both rural and urban areas throughout Illinois.
Rantoul is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Rantoul's ZIP code is 62401. The first Europeans to come to what is now Rantoul were French and they named it "Saint-Charles." The first settler in what is now Rantoul was Nicholas Sacco who came from Italy in 1789. He bought land near present day Rantoul and built a cabin which he named "Santo Stefano" after his patron saint, St. Teresa of Avila. In 1811 Sacco sold his land to John Wellman who founded the village of Wellman on August 11th, 1812 as part of a broader platting operation conducted by Mr. Wellman and others in that year for the purpose of developing new villages within Cook County. In 1818 Joseph Bickford settled here with his family and began farming corn and beans on his farmstead known as "Bickford's Prairie." In 1830 William Fenton erected a sawmill on the site which became one of the most important economic engines in early days local mills such as those located at Batavia (now Lombard), Kendallville, Romeoville and other points around the county periphery producing flour for export to Europe via railroads then across state lines to Chicago beginning in 1859 when Illinois became an American Statehood nation with its own railroad system Fenton increased production until 1865 when he closed mill because of competition from larger millsachucles throughout America brought about by rapid industrial growth during that period Fenton's heirs continued operations until their retirement in 1966 In 1870 David Prentice laid out a road north from town limits towards Carbondale leading into Carbondale whereupon Fenton opened up some adjoining land holdings used today for agricultural purposes including six acre lots lying east side river between Big Four Road (now US-151) & Carbondale Rd., 25 acres west side river between Big Four Road & River Road 2/3 mile south of downtown just east off Canal Street . West side river lot included northeast corner parcel acquired Feb 4 1880 from Wm Patton prior thereto bounded by south line on main street; east line Waterfront Expressway entering town thence northeasterly along said line1/4 mile; southeast corner parcel acquired Jan 30 1889 from Everson Woodward following purchase agreement dated May 7 1888 entered into between them . On April 21 1901 this entire tract comprising all parcels purchased since 1970 southwest corner lot including northeast corner parcel #2 located just south off Main Street opposite High School Lot also included herein are conveyed unto City of Evanston vide Resolution No 129 Confirming conveyance set forth therein This township forms Township Line 3

Rantoul is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 593 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Rantoul was founded in 1855 as a log cabin community on the banks of the Fox River. A post office was established there in 1856 and continued to be operated until it became defunct in 1916. In 1865, Alfred P. Sloan donated land to become what is now central business district of Rantoul. The first store opened there in 1867 and the first school opened in 1870. The town began to grow rapidly after it incorporation as a village in 1887. By 1912, it had over 1,000 residents and its own newspaper, The Tribune-Argus (later renamed the Tribune). The rise of industry led to Rantoul's decline during World War II; by 1945, its population had fallen below 100 people again. However, growth resumed following the war and by 1960, Rantoul had reached its current size with over 1,500 residents. After successful efforts at marketing itself as an agricultural center for fruit production and attracting businesses such as Sears Roebuck & Co., KFC restaurants were established there from the early 1970s through the present day; this helped revive Main Street Shopping District within town limits which has seen significant redevelopment since then including new housing developments and retail stores replacing older businesses dating back more than 170 years.. As he neared his death on Christmas Eve 2010 at age 95 years old Alfred Sloan stated "I have no regrets - I am very happy with my life."
