Quincy, Illinois is a town in Adams County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Quincy was founded byodusquinceyensis in 1812 and named for General David Quincey. Quincy was first settled as a farming village in 1825 on the west side of what is now Quincy Township. There were only 9 families living there when Captain John Smith and his party discovered it on July 16, 1775 while exploring the land he had been given by the British government for $3 per acre (the purchase price of which had been raised to $10 per acre due to inflation).
