Quincy, Illinois has a rich history with firearms. The first pistol in Quincy was made by Daniel Boone in 1795. It was called the “Bic Pistols” and was used to shoot quail. In 1812, Captain John J. Worth purchased a rifle from an Indian trader named Pierre Lacasse. This rifle is considered the first American rifle. The rifle had six barrels that could be fired in two directions and it weighed around 25 lbs. In 1837, Captain George Auld of the US Army acquired a musket from an Indian trader named David Thompson. This musket is considered the world’s first breech-loading musket and it fired metallic cartridges instead of shot which gave it its nickname, “The Rifleman’s Friend”. In 1847, Mr. Wm Hogg founded the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in Quincy and he bought land for a railroad station on Green Street near the current stop for Metra trains called “Greenpoint Station” today known as Haggerty Plaza Shopping Center north of I-88/I-294 exit #5A
