Quincy, Illinois is a city of over 100,000 people located in the eastern part of the state of Illinois. Quincy was founded in 1833 by Amos Eaton and James K. Polk. Hancock was one of the earliest investors in Peoria County; he purchased 5800 acres (2160 hectares) east of downtown Chicago from Nicholas Lacourbeault for $50 per acre ($10 million today). He began building up what would become Quincy as a farming community with his new holdings. Construction began on the first courthouse in Quincy—a wooden structure measuring nine by twelve feet (3 by 4 meters)—on White Street near First Avenue in 1839. In 1840, Atchison & Santa Fe Railway tracks were built through Quincy so that goods could be transported directly from Kansas City to Chicago via this route; this caused many farmers to move away from Quincy because they no longer had access to transportation! This farmstead remains today known as Fox Point Village . About 1850 another group started up called Prairie View Colony just southofpresent day Maywood . They grew corn , beans , potatoes etc but abandoned their settlement about 1880 because OF blizzards that ravaged northwestern Wisconsin However this group continued existence until perhaps 1900 or so under various aliases until finally sold their land adjacentto present day Ridgeway Drive By 1920 they had abandoned their farmstead completely due To concerns about water shortages resulting from extensive canal construction nearby
