During this time period too, Prospect Heights experienced some major growth milestones: In 1836 it became part of Racine County; in 1840 it gained its own post office; and in 1861 it achieved town status when it amalgamated with other nearby towns (such as Waukegan). However, even during these times there were some challenges faced by Prospect Heights residents: For example, whilevirtually all black Americans withinChicago soon attained full citizenship rights by 1870 following Reconstruction efforts led by President Ulysses S Grant - which ended slavery throughout most of America - African Americans continued to face discrimination both inside and outsideofthe city limits until well into the 20th century
Prospect Heights is a neighborhood in the city of Chicago, Illinois. It is a working-class neighborhood that was once home to many Irish and Italian immigrants. The area now known as Prospect Heights was first settled by Germans in the 1830s. The first European American to live in the area was John Fenton, who bought land on the Northwest Side in 1836. This meant that many businesses around today's corner continued to operate despite being banned by city officials at the time: hardware stores such as Menard's (now Jewel) and Kress Bros., grocery stores like Kroger (now Kroger Co.), dry cleaners like Gold's Gymnasium & Athletic Club and bakeries like Kaiser Permanente bakery are all still open today thanks to this discriminatory ordinance at its peak back then! In 1969, when it became clear that downtown Chicago would become an even more congested mess due to rising housing prices and increasing traffic congestion spurred on by plans for Mayor Richard Maki's "Homes under Green" program - which aimed at Preserving Midtown Park - many families decided they'd rather move out of downtown than risk losing their homesin what would soon be known as "the hood". Many Italians also left for similar reasons given that manufacturing jobs had been lost throughout much of north-central Illinois following World War II while other sectors such as transportation started making headway again thanks in part to new Interstate highways
