In 1836, John Stephenson found silver ore at Battle Creek Township which he developed into a successful mine until his death in 1864 when control passed to his son Cyrus W."Cyrus" Stephenson who sold rights back to John Stephenson's heirs who continue mining today with various companies operating within Battle Creek Township boundaries
