This plan was met with strong opposition from Houston Mayor Sam Houston because he felt that annexation would put Harris County out of business. However Houston relented after learning that eastern Dallas residents were growing crops near their homes while southern residents remained without access to markets or services such as schools or grocery stores. In 1896 Houston vetoed a bill prohibiting annexation by Dallas but this decision allowed Redevelopment District No 2 to be created which authorized economic development within certain boundaries around downtown Plano without affecting any other areas

By 1850, Plano had grown to include parts of what are today Bloomingdale and Oak Lawn counties. In 1857 US Grant's army landed at Fort Donelson on the Mississippian River to repel Native American forces during the Cherokee War and prospect for new land west of I-435 On November 4, 1860 an act establishing Dallas Township (laterDallas County) passed both houses of Congress without opposition; it became part of Clay county within Texas Territory following its admission into that territory on February 14th 1861 by Governor Sam Houston

After the war ended, Plano experienced rapid growth as a result of military spending and industrialization. In 1970, the city merged with its neighboring municipalities to form the current metropolitan area called Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW).
