Gun targets have been a part of Plano's history for over 140 years. The first target shoot in Plano took place on October 10, 1871 at the old arsenal. A group of men from the town came together to shoot at three targets placed in a field off Elm Street. At that time, guns were not common in Plano and most people used shotguns or rifles. The targets were brought back to the armory and shot again the next day. On November 15th, 1871, a small crowd of people gathered around the arsenal to watch as Ainsworth Manufacturing Company created two new target pistols using pieces of an artillery shell that had been hit by accident while being fired from a cannon near Fort Worth, Texas. The first target pistol was called the “Sphinx” and it was made out of brass with a leather grip and adjustable sights. It cost $50 dollars each. The second target pistol was called the “Olympic” and it was made out of wood with a Bakelite grip and no sights or adjustability. It cost $75 dollars each. These pistols were very popular among shooters in Plano and they helped create some very successful businesses around town including Ainsworth Manufacturing Company which still exists today as one of Plano's leading businesses

Plano, Illinois is a city in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and the seat of Richland County, Texas. The population was 117,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The first European tosight Plano was a French trader named Balthazar Le Moyne on November 2, 1790 while he was on his way from New Orleans to Fort Worth. He named it after Pierre-André de La Salle's survey of North America which had been completed two years earlier. On February 14, 1827, Judge James Kenedy laid out Plano Township on a plat that included what is now downtown Plano and much of today's northwest Side. The town was incorporated as a village on April 6, 1867 under the name "Palo Alto." In December 1916, during World War I American troops burned down several homes in Plano in retaliation for bombings by German forces in Europe. In 1927 President Calvin Coolidge dedicated Richardson Field Airport (now Dallas Love Field) located east of downtown Plano with an event attended by then Mayor John Fetterman and Congressman Newton Baker. In 1931 Plantation Shoals Golf Course No. 1 opened in northeast Plano; it remains one of the most well-known golf courses in Texas today and one of only three courses designed by countryman Sam Snead within 100 miles (160 km) of Austin - along with Congressional Country Club north of Houston and PGA National Golf Club westminster near Arlington Heights IL). The development around Richardson Field Airport led to calls for more open space throughout north Richland County including what became Ranch Road 620 which ran through downtown Plano until it was rerouted southbound near current day University Park Drive before terminating at Elmhurst Road just outside Loop 610 East/I-635 inside Downtown Dallas proper - making it one of the few places within city Limits where you could drive into DowntownDallas proper streetside without getting off at Elmhurst Rd., planning your route ahead or using public transportation...This strategy paid off as Ranch Road 620 became home to someofthelargest shopping malls westofthe Mississippi River - Service Merchandise Mart (now Sears), Toyota Motor Sales USA (laterToyota Center), Jack Dempsey Stadiums – all located between SR 620 & I-635 - as well as many major hospitals including Baylor College Hospital & Methodist Hospital; Today portions mi

Plano, Illinois is a city in Dallas County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville– Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. Plano was founded on April 15, 1853 by James Buchanan and Elijah Woods as a small community on the edge of what is now Plano Township. The post office was established in 1854. In 1860, John Fenton erected the first school building in Plano. On November 1, 1870, planters from Texas arrived in Plano and started to settling there. They brought with them their livestock and crops which were soon harvested and stored away for winter storage. The town site that would become Plano was surveyed by Wm Hite on March 20, 1872. By January 3rd of that year, Hite had laid out two townships - Grant and Park - within which he defined a square mile (1 km²) for future growth purposes without ever visiting the area himself; this "grapevine" system remains in use to this day In 1892 Edwin Epps developed what would be known as Arlington Heights while living near Chicago; Epps donated land to Arlington Heights Association Ltd., which then subdivided it into lots for settlement by farmers who agreed to pay $25 per acre (1/3 of an hectare) when they purchased their plots In 1903 Edwin Epps donated additional land to Arlington Heights Association Ltd., which then subdivided it into lots for settlement by farmers who agreed to pay $50 per acre (2/3 of an hectare) when they purchased their plots On December 9th 1906 the City of Dallas annexed parts of Cook County including portions of Cooksville and Addison Township including parts of Griggs Valley ; these annexations were effective January 1st 1907 Unable to find any suitable sites within his original town limits where he could build a city hall or other public buildings due to lack of space or economic difficulty; on October 25th 1914 Dallas Commissioners met at City Hall where they approved plans for a new city hall located at 6100 Elm Street just east of Elm Avenue ; construction began February 15th 1915 with Mayor J B Carey inaugurating the structure that same year In 1916 following World War I Mayor Carey created a special committee headed by him entitled "The Committee To Secure Resources For The Development Of Dallas" chaired by Judge John Ladd ; this committee recommended creating parkland areas adjacent to downtown along Elm Avenue between Commerce Street and State Highway 75 ; these areas became known as Richardson Park after Mayor Carey's wife Dorothy Richardson Funded them During World War II Fort Worth businessman Sam Rayburn offered 50 acres (20 hectares) northwest corner lot number 12-14-16 Trinity Place inside Richardsons Park southwest corner lot number 10-12-14 Turnagain Road extending northward from Trinity Place across Turnagain Boulevard providing open space for military training exercises during daylight hours only
Plano was founded in 1872 by John A. Plano and his family. The city was named for John A. Plano, who gave the land for the city on which it stands. It became a municipality in 1903. The population of Plano grew to over 100,000 people by 1920. In 1922, the city renamed itself Dallas afterDallas Texas, United States of America.
