plainfield is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,752 at the 2010 census. Plainfield was one of the original towns in DuPage County. The town was platted on November 1, 1837 by Denton Hennepin and James Hanna. It became an incorporated city on December 13, 1895. The first white settler in Plainfield was Ebenezer Emmons who arrived on October 25, 1838 from Knox County, Kentucky with his family. He erected a log cabin near present-day Main Street and Westfall Avenue. Ebenezer's wife Sarah emigrated with him to what is now Plainfield from Wabash County, Indiana in 1839. They had four children: John (1840–1912), Julia (1843–1927), Ebenezer Jr.(1845–1925) and Solomon (1849–1920). Emmons' son John married Anna Maria Pomeroy on January 8, 1853 in Rock Island County, Illinois and they raised five children there: Mary Jane (born 1850), John Quincy (born 1855), Henry Adams (born 1861), Dwight Goodspeed (born 1865) and Elizabeth Pomeroy Harris(born 1870). Anna Maria died before her husband could come home for her funeral; he buried her there with their six children inside the old Emmons cabin until 1893 when they moved to Elmhurst Cemetery next door which still stands today as part of the Main Street Historic District of Plainfield. He then remarried twice more: first to Ellen Dunham on July 3rd, 1880; secondly to Lizzie Bogan on December 15th 1890 afterEllen's death from typhoid fever three months later at age 36 years old just two weeks before her wedding date! John Quincy married Emma Willardt on September 14th 1889 after divorcing Lizzie Bogan but they only had one child together: Everett Willardt(date unknown). Emma Willardt died young in 1901 when Everett was only 6 years old . After World War I America entered into a new era known as "The Roaring 20s" which began with the stock market crash of 1929 which caused jobs throughout America to be lost including those in Plainfield where many people lost their positions because of companies like Standard Oil that went bankrupt during that time according to history books Plainsfields community center also known as simply "the building" used by local high school students for storage classes prior to its closure during prohibition era due to lack of funds however it has been restored back up and running since then... In 1928 Eddie Cline bought the building & it currently houses Eddie Clines BBQ restaurant located inside while the large flat roof area used by Mr Cline as his garage continues to serve as a parking lot for customers coming into town for lunch or dinner! In 1954 Edwin Sisson opened Electrical Supply Co., Inc./Edwin Sisson's Radio Shop at 4200 N Moody Ave #1017 which became one of the most popular businesses around here until its closing about 5 years ago due to changes withinDu Page county government post-war Changes such as consolidation of all township governments & loss or gain of several properties withinPlainFIELD limits led directly or indirectly to decreased business activity & store closure although some items still remain inventory includes radios , TV’s etc ...... So much for history being written by those who are not alive anymore ...
The Plainfield area was first settled in the early 18th century by English settlers. The town was founded on a small piece of land located between the Des Moines and Fox Rivers. The first settler in Plainfield, Ebenezer Harmon, arrived in 1774. In 1802, the town was named after General James K. Polk during his visit to the area. In 1836, Plainfield became a part of Illinois and was renamed from Harmon to Plainfield Township. On July 1, 1840, the townshipwas merged into Cook County and its name changed to plainfield
