Plainfield, Illinois is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 46,745 at the 2010 census. It is the eighth-largest city in Illinois and the seventh-largest city in the Chicago metropolitan area. Plainfield was founded on November 3, 1837 by John A. Drexel and his brother Amos Drexel as a small town on the site of present day Plainfield Township. The townships were organized into villages and then municipalities before being annexed by Chicago in 1898. In 1951, Plainfield became one of six cities that joined the Chicago metropolitan area through annexation of its neighboring townships; it now forms part of the downtown core of Chicago. The first post office was established in 1837 in what is now known as Village 1 (township 2 not included). On November 3rd, 1837 John A.Drexel delivered letter #2 to The Post Office at Village 1 with " plain field" appended which later became "PlainFIELD". The first house built here was erected by Amos Drexel around 1840 called "The House on Elm", which still stands today near West 152nd Street and North Avenue within City Limits of Plainfield Township." In 1862 when Abraham Lincoln was elected President he moved from Springfield to this village for election reasons but his family returned to Springfield four days after his inauguration so they stayed here until their properties could be bought back from local farmers who had rented them out for election time only to sell them back immediately afterwards because they didn't have any other places to move to! There are also some interesting stories about Abraham Lincoln'spresidency - once he stopped travelling across state lines for campaign appearances meaning that all communications between Washington D.C., White House and these areas would go through General Richard Munch (Chief Clerk) who would take care of all logistics between these three points - but one day while traveling outstate he received a call from someone at home saying there had been an attack on Fort Sumter... Abe quickly dispatched Munch to Maryland whereupon receiving word that Sumter had surrendered.....Munch went into great detail explaining how everything worked including how every drop of blood spilled inside Fort Sumter turned into gold according to rules set down by George Washington himself! This story has been variously interpreted over time but seems most likely true given that we know something about fortifications at least 100 years after events occurred? Plainfield is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 30,815 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Cook County. The first known permanent settler of what would become Plainfield was Nicholas Flournoy in 1810. He built a cabin on the banks of the West Branch Des Moines River just west of present-day downtown Plainfield. The village of Clearwater was founded about two miles (3 km) to the northwest in 1823 by John Prentice and others from Derby, England with land grants from President James K. Polk. The first post office opened in 1825, and it remained so until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1835, an act was passed authoring township organization; however, no townships were organized until 1841 when Plainfield Township received its charter from the General Assembly. In 1861, after three years of wrangling over boundaries between adjoining townships – including a battle between Plainfield and neighboring Bloomingdale over a mutual crossing of a creek – township trustees voted to accept nearly all of what would come to be known as western Plainfield into one new township along with eastern Bloomingdale and parts of Addison Township. At that time, Bloomingdale had already been incorporated as a city; however, due to objections by some members ofplainFIELD's governing board – which included Flournoy himself – Bloomingdale's incorporation did not take place until 1860. During World War I, many residents left their homes for military service because they believed that war would bring economic prosperity to their townspeople constituents back home across Lake Michiganide Boulevard at that time called "the Strip." Many businesses closed during prohibition because liquor could not be bought without buying property or investing money into manufacturing plants; but business picked up once prohibition ended on Jan 1st 1920 following ratification by Illinois voters via referendum (overwhelmingly Yes). After Prohibition expired merchants began selling beer and wine again through curbside bottle sales beginning Jan 1st 1923 On October 5th 1927 Plainfield held its third annual Agricultural fairgrounds open unto market day having originally been established as an agricultural show ground back on April 17th 1902 . This event became more popular starting around 1910 when Chicagoans started bringing their families down for summer vacations and needed something close by where they could resettle before winter arrived
Plainfield was founded in 1837 by Elijah Woods as a small Indian trading post on the eastern border of what is now Illinois.
