In 1836, Nathan Bedford Forrest bought 160 acres (60 ha) of land northwest of Plainfield from John Hargrave for $5USD per acre donated by Forrest himself as part of a larger donation to support American Indian Relief Society operations near Fort Dearborn in downtown Chicago at that time (). Forrest renamed his new property "Forsyth" after General Andrew Jackson (). When Plainsville became an incorporated town in 1907 it joined forces with Forsyth to become one municipality under common governance - this arrangement continued until 1973 when Plainsville formally merged into nearby Chicago.
